25 Years ago this week ...

The week after Christmas 1986, I was bored with the usual countdowns and decided to explore the FM band. When I got to 96.5 I heard some familiar voices that I hadn't heard in a few months, Robin and Maynard (and Roy Otis). No call letters yet, it was mostly talking and they kept calling the station '96 dot 5'. A couple of weeks later, they had Xavier McDaniel from the Sonics on and after that they introduced 'The X'.

...and back then, it sounded funny. 96 "Dot" 5? Who the hell ever thought of THAT? It was always "point" something. I don't think ANYBODY has ever used that before KXRX.

Little did we know that "dot" would become synonymous with everything in computing....Guess a lot of Microsoft employees listened to KXRX.......

Who thought of the 'DOT'? That would be the one and only....Mike West.

THE best radio station Seattle ever had. Robin once told me that the KXRX years were the best and favorite of her career.

Long live Roy Otis and Officer Lee Groinman.

Right on Tee Taw! Maybe one day we will have R & M et al back on radio in Seattle.

Robin is retired and living in Montana, right where she always wanted to be. I am sure there is not enough money to ever get her back to Seattle radio. But as she always said, money talks, bullsh*t walks.

As for Maynard, he is much older than Robin and although still working, I can't imagine he would be in for a full time show again.

Maybe they could play their old shows on line???? HHHMMM....

I saw Maynard walking around the Taste Of Edmonds last year, with his family I guess. He looks great. I am sure he'd love to do a show again. I hope so anyway, that is if opportunity knocks.

How ironic I just happen to know the guy who owns KXRX.net ;) and a few other stations I bet he would love to play their old shows should they be wanting a platform to do just that...

I think it would be awesome to hear them again they were one of the shows that cemented my love for radio at an early age....

There are many of us that would love too see another R&M program appear in Seattle. Even though they likely had a bit of daily show planning, it never sounded like it. All improv and seat of your pants radio. Original material mostly created on the spot. And it was funny. No serious head trips and Dr. Phil tone. The last gig at the Buzz started taking on "topics" amd dialoging with listeners each day about it. You could tell they were both uncomfortable going down that path. If those two were to somehow, someway show back up in P.S. radio, you would likely watch a ratings shift not seen around here in many many years. It would sell.
