8/30/83, Channel 48 WKBS-TV signed off the air for good after 18 years.
 
Wow, I still remember that to this very day. I remember wondering where on earth I was going to see my cartoons. I think I may have cried ;D
 
I'm surprised Metromedia never made a bid for 48. It would have been a great addition to their portfolio at a time when they were expanding.
 
Philly couldn't really support three independents at that time. WPHL was struggling until WKBS went black; 48's disappearance saved 17's life.

Even in the mid-late 80's, 57 was hurting until 29 went to Fox.
 
I still remember "The Channel 48 Fun Machine", complete with the CGI arcade game mocks and Kraftwerk's "Numbers" and "Home Computer".
