Re: 10 years & 9 months serving the Community
WNSC has signal issues, as do all stations in York County. There's a small ridge between Rockhill and Charlotte (now you know where rockHILL got its name) and unless you're Uptown or on the south side, 88.9 is in and out on a car radio and almost non-existant on a home stereo, work radio or clock radio. They lean a little older. WCCJ was Smooth Jazz. WNSC is just Jazz. WFAE had huge ratings in their Jazz days and one would think that would translate to huge ratings for a commerical FM Jazz station in the market? I think the ratings were there, a good morning show was in place, but ownership wanted more? I have no idea what kind of income it was generating during the Smooth Jazz days. In some southern markets it can be a hard sell and Charlotte may have been one of them? These days Smooth Jazz works well when mixed with Urban AC. It's easier to sell than Smooth Jazz on its own and attracts the same "upper income" audience. The format attracts a wealthy black female audience. The average listener is in the 35-44. Maybe V can look into a slight Jazz tweak, since they have Smooth Jazz Sundays and seem to target that age group. Mix in a little Jazz with their Urban AC. Smooth Jazz is known well for the wealthy audience it attracts. I think (Census) changes in the market, along with an increase in wealth of residents favors Smooth Jazz / Urban AC Mix and continues to favor it more and more each year. If only I knew more about the sales at WCCJ? I think a Jazz / Urban AC removing the word "Jazz" and using Urban Flavors (Urban Flavors 101.9) could be an easier sell or keep V-101.9, add Smooth Jazz with the Urban AC, and see if anyone can tell we switched their regular format with the new and improved format. (lol) Kind of a slow format adjustment that goes under the radar.<P ID="signature">______________
