Hi. I grew up in Chicago and went to Gordon Tech. I often visited WGN in the 1960's. There were 3 tv studios on the first floor. Orion Samuelsons farm show, Ray Rayner, Romper Room, Garfield Goose, Dick Tracy, and news and the TV Barn Dance, Ron Terry's Polka Party and "The Big Bands" - a syndicated music show came from those 3 rooms.

WHAT are those rooms used for NOW?

Is the "turntable" in the floor that used to twirl Behren's, "the midwest largest Continental Mercury Comet dealers" cars while RANDY BLAKE told you how great they are - still there?

What has become of the WGN pipe organ ON WHICH Harold Turner used to play "GreaT hYMNS OF aLL Faiths" on Sunday?

There was a small tv studio on the second floor. It was used for the 1pm 15 minute newscast and for "Nightbeat w/Carl Grayson late night. That room was also the place where the "booth announcers" sat, doing the live id and live spots between programs. WHAT is in that space NOW?

The projection room and 3 radio studios were also on the second floor. WHAT is in that space NOW?

Fast forward to 2006. Only a few hours of live tv each day- all news - and some weekend public affairs stuff originate from that building.

Can anyone tell me about WHAT goes on at 2501 today?

Thanks.

On a segement of the Morning News, Dean Richards said that one studio was for News and the Bozo Studio now has all the lottery machines for that broadcast. Now what about the other 2? Thats a good question. I would love to get a chance to walk around there. I do remember lining up in the hallway as a kid waiting to get into the Bozo show, seeing Frazier Thomas walking across the hallway from the studio, but not much more about the building itself. This was in 1983.

I'd bet that 1 is a "production" studio that their creative services staff could use to shoot commercials or which can be used for "overflow" (ie: bands for the AM Show, MDA, etc.) and maybe the other is storage space now or dedicated to that Walgreens show they produce?

Studio 1 is for news. (former bozo set) Studio 2 is for performances. Really cool black cyc with lights embedded in it. Studio 3 is for lottery drawings. New WX center is across the hall from Studio 1
