2AM ramblings of a former engineer

Just looking at the radar wondering if anyone in FL, MS or even here is gonna lose a tower this time around???

Will let you know, 'Saur.

DE has a brother in radio down there, hunkered down as we speak. They are concerned. Cluster lost one in Ivan.

There are a couple 2000-footers in Baldwin County, AL that are holding up SEVERAL antennas. If one of those come down, it'll be a problem for them.

There is one 1000' tower in Jackson Co., MS. It has weathered a direct hit once or twice, so it might be OK. 3 signals on it. The other big towers on the MS Coast are in Stone County, and should be OK.

We'll see.

That shouldn't be a problem. We're only going to get low-end Tropical Storm force winds. Thunderstorms can go well beyond that.

If they survived Hurricane Elvis, they'll be OK.

I was wonderaing about that tho. These winds may be sustained over several hours. If the guy wires have been poorly maintained and they start vibrating there actually could be a problem. Flinn's TV tower out on Appling has always worried me. Most 1000 footers take 6-8 guy levels. That one has 13. Must be made of tinfoil.

Oh, well. Where's the Hurricane party?

There was a note on the North Florida page the someone had, indeed, bent their stick; WECM, Milton, 1490 AM. They were seeking repair advice.

Bent stick. An old engineer's malady.
