Chicago radio's first "day the music died." 30 years have passed since Larry Lujack told us to get "in the tub" ending the top 40 era on Super CFL.

Does anyone know if he mentioned anything on 'RLL today concerning CFL's "passing"?

No, but I heard Tom Murphy this afternoon wish Bob Dearborn a happy birthday. Dearborn's last day on Super CFL 30 years ago today was his birthday? Don't imagine he was in the mood to celebrate much. Nobody was on that day, except 'LS and a bunch of FM stations that had been circling like vultures.

There is an old Irish saying that goes something like "Thoe who do not honor the past have doomed their future". It's not exact but I hope you get the drift.

WRLL needs to find a place for Bob Dearborn. He should be on Chicago radio.

From what I’ve heard, MOR type radio is what he did for many years before taking a few years off to care for his dying parents. That was his life immediately before WJMK. He made adjustments to all that. Why deny him the chance to make new adjustments just because he didn’t meet your expectations one day? Are snide, dismissive comments from the sidelines any match for the contributions to radio this guy has made? You dishonor him and yourself, sir. Dearborn has given us 30 years or more of quality radio, a lot of that in Chicago, and he probably has more of it in him. It would be an improvement over a lot of what we’ve got on the air nowadays. I say give him the opportunity. I’d listen.

> i appreciate what you say and also appreciate the fact that you are classy in responding to my post.....that said...dearborn but me to sleep a lot more than once....on 'jmk.....and im all for giving him the chance to 'make adjustments'..im not int he radio biz..i dont hire people..it aint my business...i hardly think i dishonored him...from what i know (asi i said) he is a nice man.....but he is not a 'name' in the sense that winston, or biondi, or lujack are/were....he spent some quality time at 'cfl....a bit at 'jjd..and did an overnight show in the 80's....so what?....my point is...even the weekenders at 'jmk (calhoun, lisa greene et al) were far better on the air....dearborn puts me to sleep

> from what i >know he is a nice man...but...even the weekenders at 'jmk were far better on the air...dearborn puts me to sleep

There are plenty of people who put me to sleep, so I listen to somebody else. I don’t feel compelled to do a drive-by trashing of people who are not my favorites every time their name is mentioned. I ignore them, believing that to do otherwise would reveal more shortcomings in my character than the person I’m criticizing. And I wouldn’t stoop to using the transparent tactic of saying, “I understand he’s a nice man, but …” in order to make myself appear to be fair and reasonable.

We’re all entitled to our opinions. You don’t “get” Dearborn, I think he’s OK, and better than most of the liner-card readers and no-talent amateurs we all complain about. The fact that he’s been able to have a successful 30 or 40 year career in radio – maybe half of it in Chicago – says something, doesn’t it? Common sense tells us you don’t stick around that long by having the majority of listeners dislike your work.

From this exchange, we’ve got some idea of what Bob Dearborn has accomplished. All we’ve learned about you is that you feel the need to slam people, and you fall asleep a lot.

don you were ok the first time....not this time...my understanding of this site...is it is for criticizm of personalities, and radio in general....your post was a criticizm of me....and as state previously, i m not in radio...i do not think anything i said was transparent....in fact you are the one urging everybody to 'be nice and not trash anyone'...i said i heard bob was a nice man...which i did....any way.....i doing your act...and turning it personal....for that i apologize......my opinion stands...dearborn is a bore...and as you suggest for making it 40 years he deserves kudos which i give here
