WTVN with less than a 4 share. Never, ever would have thought it would see a number like that.

I'm sure the geniuses in San Antonio and Cincinnati will conclude it's because we don't get enough of their slate of national talk shows on the air here and because we would like to have more newscasts from distant markets. Sean Hannity live is the answer and who needs Ken Stevens anyway? (sarcasm)

What a mess.

I don't remember ever WTVN being that low..

Syndicated talk is just not doing well nationally right now ... Time for WTVN to get back to being committed to news .. but with the small staff that sadly won't likely happen.

It's crazy to think that next PPM release The Blitz could beat them.

WZOH still a no show.. I am guessing Wilks is not subbing for their sports station ... or no one is listening (which would be a shock for that signal .. ) Wink 107.1 and K95.5 combined had better ratings than the two split stations are doing.

Will be interesting in August to see how 103.9 does with the flip to Jack.

Not only is the share fading, but WTVN is now down to 9th in cume among the listed stations. They're sandwiched between CD102.5 and X106.7. In the complete ratings (e.g., including Sunny and the Fan), WTVN is likely out of the top ten in cume. Wow. Oh, how they must long for the days when they could carry Buckeye games -- even when they were restricted to the away games. In fact, among some of the talkers that are still holding on, home-team play-by-play often has a lot to do with that.

True. Of course since Arbitron's "August" starts July 18, it will include almost a week of the all-news format's anemic ratings.

BTW, kudos to del for the tersest subject heading I've seen yet.

Another AM station we might want to check out for in the next ratings will be WMNI now that they have returned to adult standards. Before they aired Clippers games they use to be the second most listened to AM in town. I see 103.9 will probably gain some ratings too from their return to variety hits.

Question for the engineers out there:

If my laypersons knowledge is correct, Amplitude Modulation and Frequency Modulation are two separate and distinct methods of handling signals.

Could FM broadcasting work at the frequencies AM stations operate? Would that eliminate the things that hobble AM broadcasters, such as night patterns and whatnot? Would that be a way to save the AM band?

The problems related to night signals, skywave etc are a function of the low frequencies of the AM band. So using narrowband frequency modulation will not be any help there.

Since FM uses a channel width of 200 Khz versus the 10 KHz channel spacing of AM it is not practical to use frequency modulation on the AM frequencies.

Don't get me started on stuffing HD sidebands on AM either. That makes the audio worse on the analog side.

A radical idea would be to totally dump the analog audio and go 100 percent digital on the AM channels. Then you could get a robust data stream with a decent bitrate. But this will never happen.

Activity sure comes in waves on the board. Anyway...

Tom Taylor's newsletter says that WTVN's 3.9 is its lowest share ever, PPM or diary. And that WNCI's 12.2 is its highest PPM share to-date. Also, according to RadioInfo WNCI's increase of 1.6 is tied with a Memphis urban oldies station for the biggest increase this month across all the PPM markets. +1.6 is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but I'm surprised it would be the biggest increase.

I noticed the 3.9 number and the huge cume loss as well. And the cume loss, to me anyway, was staggering...it was the first number I really paid attention to before I cared about the 12 plus share. It's definitely a sign that some people are staying away from the party there. Though as I've stated before, I think it may have more to do with a number of reasons rather than just one particular issue.

Regarding WMNI: It will be interesting to see what they do. Still, they're in a format that's WAY too top heavy in upper demos so selling it will be a challenge. But, given that NABCO has some experience with that, it may be less of an issue for them.

We'll see.

K95 @ 107.1 continues to slowly climb up.  Not sure if it ever had a 1.2 rating when it was "Wink."

Going back as far as Jan 2011, it looks like Wink peaked at 1.1, a couple times in 2011.

WZOH with a .4 share M21+
Looks like Q had some sampling with Men 25-54 in morning drive in June with a 9.6... back to an 8.0 in July though.

Q has a 5.6 with men25-54 M-Su, their lowest in the last 4 months. Time to sell it boys.
