You're right, it probably involves PPM wearers who are travelers to Boston. However, I do recall (back in my college days) being able to pick up a local-grade WAAF (of course, that was before Entercom's dreadful decision to switch tx sites) and a perfectly receivable WBMX and WXKS-FM (as well as what are now WODS and WJMN among others) from the Storrs area. All did much better in my apartment than in the car.
So, if the PPM survey area includes enough people from the right parts of Windham and Tolland counties, I guess it's plausible that there's a little Boston listening.
The Quinebaug Valley, like most CT river valleys, runs mostly north-south. You're driving east-west on US-6 and the central CT signals are a clear shot from the west-facing hills east of Danielson. As far west as Coventry on Route 6, some Providence stations like WPRO-FM come in decently while some big CT signals experience multi-path/picket fencing interference thanks to hills in the way.KML-224 said:Another problem area seems to be Killingly. Coming back from Providence on day trips, while riding along US Route 6, I would listen to WPRO-FM 92.3 (92 PRO-FM). As soon as I hit the Connecticut line, I almost immediately received interference from adjacent WWYZ-FM 92.5.
As for the mentioned shared frequencies of 93.7, 104.1 and 107.9 FM, wouldn't the same hold true with 92.5 FM as well? I think the Massachusetts station is WXRV-FM 92.5 of Haverhill.
Lastly, WBZ-FM of Boston, a.k.a. 98.5 The Sports Hub, is simulcasted most of the time on WTIC-FM HD3. Are subchannels counted in these posted numbers?
