3 Cheers For This Oldies Station

Let's give WCDW, Cool-100-FM, in Binghamton, NY a round of applause. Locally owned and operated, this station routinely finishes near the bottom of the ratings...yet, they march on, still giving things their best shot. Their sound processing is pretty decent, their imaging is fairly well done, and, most important of all, they have never gotten caught up in the 150-200 song play list nonsense.

They do a nice job of sprinkling in truly obscure records during the overnight hours, and they're the station used for background music on the local cable system public announcment/time and temperature channel.

And, they were just voted the area's favorite radio station in the local newspaper annual Reader's Choice Poll. To their owner, their Program Director, and their hardworking air and sales staff, I say-

Hip, Hip, Hooray! And many congratulations on a job well done!

They should consider taking a lesson from KOOL-Phoenix. Number 1 in the 15th largest market. By a full point. They're doing it right.

Long live KOOL 94.5 and its Oldies format! :D

Love that station! Anytime I'm in Phoenix, I ALWAYS punch in 94.5/KOOL-FM. I hope they plan to eventually stream. That's a great station! Congratulations to my favorite FM station from the "Valley Of The Sun"!

Who participates in these readers polls anyway? If they were REALLY the area's favorite radio station they wouldn't be a bottom feeder in the ratings.

Oldies Station

Absolutely correct. The only vote that counts is the Arbitron vote. Reader polls are almost as unscientific as radio station daily web polls.
