3 comments on the Christmas flips

a) I notice WCBS New York is doing a fair compromise. All Christmas music during prime time only (7pm midnight) then REGULAR music during the rest of the day with one Holiday favorite each hour.
Last year they went full tile from 3pm Dec 24th -midnight on the 25th.

b)Why not play Run DMC's Christmas in Hollis? They have the Special Christmas CD (ODS and ROr DO play other tracks from this CD)

c)as a return to music starter track Why not Santana's Smooth?

I like what 'CBS-FM is doing with the nighttime playing of Christmas music, yet keeping the regular format during the day with one or two holiday favorites per hour. Personally, I'd prefer two holiday songs per hour through the season, to keep the music fresh. This 6 weeks of nothing but Christmas music on both 'ODS and 'ROR takes away from the holiday spirit. It's making it "less-special". I mean, there is just so much Christmas material to go around. It's funny that just a few years ago (even after 9/11), you'd be hard pressed to find any station (with the exception of WPLM-FM with their "12 days of Christmas" and Stonehill College's WSHL-FM with their "Christmas Festival of Music") going wall-to-wall Christmas music except on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Now, it's "in vogue", not only here but in several radio markets around the country. As a Christian, I love the Christmas season and the music. But, I really find this to be "too much of a good thing". I'm sure there are other people, who do not celebrate Christmas, but would like to still be able to get their regular music as well. Sure, 'ODS created a '60/70's stream on their website to pacify the regular 'ODS listeners. But it doesn't do much for the folks in cars (WiFi is still not all there yet.). Starting Christmas music in early November, well.... it seems a little overly done. IMHO.

If it wasn't for the Christmas music, I'd be sampling the new "Zito and Karen" show on ODS but, aside from Day 1 when I briefly tuned in and heard them talking to Fast Freddy, I haven't heard them at all. I may or may not tune in when "regular programming" resumes in late December.

Right now, I've got WORC-FM/Oldies 98-9 on with the great Dave O'Gara although usually I've got The Pike on but they've got the Pats game today plus the 11 hour pregame show. Well, it SEEMS like it's 11 hours. ::)

I tried to get the fringe of WORC-FM in the west suburbs last night, but it sounded like there was a pirate (from Boston?) on the frequency 98.9 with Caribbean or Haitian music.
