104.3 KKFN==Lincoln Financial

102.3 KDSP==Front Line

93.7==NRC even though it's a Booster but still

Plus 3 AM Sports stations.... :eek: Good Grief...is there enough Sports on FM in this Town?? It's really sad Considerding when we have 2 Good Formats: Ryhthmic Oldies & Dance are both on Rim Shots...101.5 & 107.1

New York & Los Angeles the #1 & 2 Markets don't even have this many FM Sports stations,

Com'on Denver....Lincoln Killed Jazz for Sports, 104.3 Is a good Stick, why not keep a Music Format,

Oh, but there's more sports...

87.7 ESPN Deportes
1510 Mile High Sports
1600 Fox Sports

...and all of them are "Denver's Sports Station".

It's simple. Sports radio has the second highest power ratio in the industry behind all news, and it's cheaper to run. Sports radio significantly outbills its ratings share pretty much everywhere and doesn't show the slow growth all news startups typically show. Sports is also a format you can sell without numbers.

I agree that Denver has a ton of all sports stations, and it seems like overkill. However, you wouldn't see that many sports stations if they weren't making money.

87.7 ESPN Deportes
Sister station to ESPN 102.3
1510 Mile High Sports
AM side (And main freq) of 93.7
1600 Fox Sports
Essentially mirrors 104.3 The Fan (Minus the local talent)
...and all of them are "Denver's Sports Station".
And are owned by THE SAME groups

When you think about it, Denver doesn't have 3 ADDITIONAL sports stations (For a total of SIX :eek: ). We really only have FOUR stations. They are as follows.....

87.7 ESPN Desportes (I wanna say KXDP are the calls but somehow I don't think that's right)
102.3 ESPN Radio (KXDP?)
104.3 The Fan (KKFN) - Fox Sports (Which is also heard almost 24/7 on AM 1600 - KEPN or merely KKFN-AM ??)
AM 1510 Mile High Sports (KCKK - 93.7 is a translator, the calls I can't think of right now) - Yahoo! Sports Radio (Formerly Sporting News Radio )

Just clarifying things a little ;D

Cheers :)

...and since we are on the topic of sports radio overkill...FIVE local Denver stations broadcasting Denver Nuggets basketball. REALLY do we need AM950, AM1510, FM93.7, FM103.1 and FM104.3 broadcasting the same game??? Someday, I hope the Broncos air their games on an FM, since it has been a time-honored tradition to mute the TV and listen to Bob Martin, Larry Zimmer back in the day and Dave Logan today.

First, thanks for the correction & clarification on the calls of 87.7, 93.7 & 102.3 :)

I don't think they're all broadcasting the same game (Though they all broadcast Nuggets games)

Honestly though, AM950 shouldn't even be broadcasting ANY sports at all (It's an OLDIES). The signal on AM1510 is too weak. I think broadcasting sports should be limited to KOA & the sports FM sticks (Even 93.7 has a fairly decent signal in most parts of the city)

Don't count on that happening anytime soon as long as Clear Channel has any influence in the decision making process

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 ;D

I can see this as a possiblity, however with 2 Distictive formats in this market ie.."A Dance station and Rhythmic Adult/Oldies, it's just really sad to waste 2 FM signals with sports, Radio isn't what it once was, all these suites care about is more money in their Freakin Pockets. Jammin and Hot both are unique formats but will never have any chance being on Rimshot signals

Yet you have 2 sports formats clogging up 2 good FM signals in the Denver area, Internet Radio Lives on forever now as Terrestrial Radio is Dead ??? ???

Multiple sports stations in many markets will become the norm.. with ESPN doing it's thing.. Fox Sports.. and now coming this fall CBS Sports Radio network and NBC Sports Radio Network... Sports is the "big ticket" right now.

CBS Radio Sports is basically Westwood One/Dial Global sports (Has been for years)

Not sure where you get the idea that NBC is forming a sports network on Radio though (Heck, they barely have a news network for Radio)

Cheers & 73 :D

They are... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/hiestand-tv/story/2012-06-10/hiestand-NBC-trots-out-its-radio-voice/55505354/1

With the Early Summer Ratings just out,

KKFN 104.3 ==1.7

KSDP 102.3 == 0.9

hmmm i don't know......why not have just left KKFN on 950 where it was in the first place,

WHy don't some of these Bright Minds ::) at some of these Stations here quit copying on what other markets do, just because Sports in Detroit or Philly Does well on FM doesn't mean it will work here

Has little to do with the band or frequency (unless bad signal) but in the case of the "The Fan"...for Denver being a very good sports town, they have seemed to under perform.

BUT...remember you are sing the 12+ numbers which advertisers do not care about...that is just for bragging, no value in being the best 12+...it is winning your demo...and in the case of the Fan...they likely do well with men 25-54 and 18-34...and that is their bread and butter.

But yes, sports stations (though 3 in Denver is overkill...2 could succeed, if done right and with patience, which is lacking in the immediacy of today's world) can and should do a bit better then it appears they have done in Denver.

KOA is heavy sports in PM Drive and with the Broncos, Rockies, and CU...but they are N/T first and foremost...though if the Fan got the Broncos, or maybe Rockies, you see some uptick in their numbers, and a bit of down tick for KOA.

But that ain't gonna happen...KOA too strong and too much heritage for those teams to bail...but again you never know.
