3 weekday shifts on KOST, but 4 weekend shifts?

We all know that KOST now has 3 weekday airshifts.

But how in the world can there still be 4 weekend shifts?

You would think they would match the weekends with the weekdays, right?

yes.. it is quite ridiculous...
the lineup now is Monday-Friday
6-12 Mark Wallengren, The Morning Show
12-6 Bryan Simmons
6-12 Karen Sharp with "lovesongs" starting at 7 pm

so.. thats 5 days, and then theres the weekend with 4 people!
i feel bad for those who are working such long 6 hour shifts..

after all this, i must admit that i've been a KOST listener for many years, and hopefully many more years as long as they don't completely turn the station upside down

Weekend talent is paid by the hour, so whether you have three shifts or five shifts you still have to pay for the same number of hours per day.

That may be true.
HOWEVER, some weekend talents are getting paid much more than others for having been with the company longer.
For example, ted ziegenbusch has been with KOST since the mid 1980's, while Brie Tennis or Christine Martindale have only been with KOST since about 2001.

Back in the day, B/EZ stations would have a "personality to do news , weather, and time. Occassionally they might announce a cut. These were usually 6 hour shifts. Since AC is the new B/EZ---------voila!

Okay, I spoke with a friend who is an AFTRA member. Looks like they negotiated a contract that calls for a minimum number of jocks per day on the weekend, but didn't do that for weekdays. Guess they never considered that CC would do this. Plus as Bob Hudson said it doesn't matter how many people they're paying as they'll have to pay scale for all of those hours no matter how many they're paying it to. Since Ted Ziegenbusch was let go of in 99 or 2000 and was away until about a year ago I doubt he's making much more than scale. That happened to Bryan Simmons too in 2001 so I'm guessing he doesn't make as much as he used to either.
