30 Days in the Es Hole

Sorry, had to toss in a quasi-Humble Pie reference.

After an outstanding start to the Es season In late May/early June, Es has disappeared for us in Myrtle Beach the past 30 days.

The season started with an unexpected but nice Caribbean event in late April. Following a three week lull, Es was a near-daily occurrence from TX/OK, MN/ND and KS/NE/SD. Toss in a strong, pre-noon event from the Maritimes and New England, the prospects for a banner year were high.

The first Friday in June was the last Es we had here. I can't remember such a barren stretch around the summer solstice.

I was in the car yesterday and heard lots of Spanish across the dial and then suddenly it died. Didn't get to ID anything before it was gone. It was there when I got in the car but not sure for how long before then.

Very similar here in Virginia. Haven't heard anything in the last few weeks worth noting. With the way it started out, I figured I'd fill a log book.

Haven't had even one E Skip catch this year.

It was about this time last year when I had my last of three.

This has been a real disappointing season here.

Shortly after 2pm yesterday (Monday), there was a short Es burst with Spanish on 92.7 & 93.1. Presumably, the latter signal was XHAAA, Reynosa, TA, Mexico, but can't confirm it yet.

If you are getting that area, I'd say the 92.7 to be Laredo TX, but of course, that's only speculation.

Es into FM has indeed been rarer than usual this year for me. I do recall one wild afternoon about 2 months ago, when even a low power Guatemalan on 87.5 (yes they do use that frequency for non-profit---it was Asi Fue Mi Vida Radio, likely 100 watts) appeared on my car radio.

I don't know if its related, but I have noticed the last couple nights that the AM dial has lit up. I am getting stations almost like the middle of Winter. A week ago it was dead.
