30 years ago today: The New York City Blackout

What do you remember about that day and night and the day after when the blackout continued and how the NYC TV stations handled this major crisis during a dark period in the city's history?

I remember being out in Hampton Bays at my aunt's summer cottage. We were watching Baretta on WTNH (New Haven- did not get WABC very well out there), when the screen went blank. I remember the following morning barely picking up 66 WNBC out there listening to all the details.
