It took place on 7/13/77 at 9:36 PM EDT and last for 25 hours. For more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Blackout_of_1977 . What do you remember about that day and night and the day after when the blackout continued and how did CBS, ABC and NBC handled the news coverage this major crisis during a dark period in the city's history and how the TV networks were affected by the power outage ?

I remember working in master control at WKTV in Utica, NY that day. We lost the NBC feed and went to black and sat on a technical difficulties slide for a while. In those days we got our feed from a AT&T land line. AT&T evientally got another feed from elsewhere -maybe Chicago or backfed from L. A. One of our guys "twixed" (teletyped) NBC in NY and asked if it was the end of the world? In a couple minutes we got the reply - No, but we are looking over the edge!
