$300 Gift Certificates?

A

I caught part of a show Saturday morning, on WCRN 830 that gave away a $300 gift certificate to every caller. The gift certificates were, I think, to a company run by the two hosts. I didn't get the name of the show but it was some sort of home improvement show. I can't remember the hosts' names, but one was pretty good and the other came across like a smarmy jerk.

Depending on what these certificates are really worth, it sounds like a pretty generous show. Anyone know who these guys are?

Don't get carried away about the program hosts' generosity. If you've described the coupons correctly, like nearly all advertising coupons, they reduce the price of some product or service. If you don't buy the product or service, you don't "save" any money. However, if you had no need for the product or service and no intention of buying it before you heard the program, the only way to break even is to throw out the coupon and not buy anything. If you had no need for the product and you nevertheless buy it to "save" the $300, you are out whatever you paid because you didn't need the product or service. Buying something you don't need or want because the seller promised you a good deal, is not a good deal for you; it might be a good deal for the seller, though.

I tuned this show in again to see if they were still giving away $300 to every caller. Instead I heard one of the hosts say that he can't find English-speaking white guys who are willing to put in a full day's work. I don't know the ethnicity of the host, but if a white guy said that about black or hispanic workers, there'd be hell to pay.

As Butch Cassidy once said "Who are these guys?".
