300 meter Radio Tower Crash in the Netherlands!

Very import to say!

Nobody was hurt. Firebrigades left the building and gave up the tower.

Happily there were no lives lost.

YIPES! That's scary!

Do they know how the fire started?

I don't know but if someone told me they bought some Lucas Capacitors that (of course) leaked oil, I'd have no choice but to believe////

Wow.

Anyone even within a mile of that thing must have stained a pair of shorts when it came down.

The interesting thing is that this happened within a couple of hours after a fire in another tower (IJsselstein)...
Rumour: The fire in IJsselstein fire died due to lack of oxygen because a certain hatch was closed. But at this tower the hatch was open therefore the fire didn't die.
Rumour: This fire happened because the x-mitters were driven extra hard to compensate for the loss of the IJsselstein tower.
But again, these are rumours.

One "official" report indicates the tower fire was possibly the result of a lightning strike.
The other fire possibly wasn't in the "tower" but in the transmitter or power distribution room.

What a nightmare. Heliax-type coax burns very well, and that does appear to be what's on fire as the upper and lower mast sections separate. I think I've just seen an example of steel weakening under heat stress from a fire, interesting to contemplate as 9/11 approaches.

If Lucas made radio or TV equipment, we'd all still be in the dark.......literally and figuratively. ;D

It seemed that the feeders/combiners caught fire after a massive power increment to fill a coverage gap.

Here's a question:

How come in Europe and some parts of Asia, the transmitters are 1/2 way up the tower in what is a concrete silo with a tower attached to the top? Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to build a self supporter or big guyed tower and keep all of the equipment at the bottom?

Always wondered why you never see these in the U.S.

Anyone capable of a raw translation of the dialogue? Does he have any hints for the cause?

Its mostly cursing.
