31.5?

I saw this pop up last night, and tested posted on another thread about it.

So far it's blank, but I wonder what they're planning?

TheCoolTV is indeed a happening thing. NOW if only we could get KNVA here in Austin to give it a few more ones and zeroes! ;D I saw Prince's Purple Rain on it the other day and the breakup was nothing less than amazing!

Could 31.5 become TheCoolTV? Just saying.

No.
Why not?
You'll recall that The Cool TV used to be on 31.3. K31GL is still owned by the same company. That company leases space to anyone that will buy it. The terms were obviously not good for The Cool TV. If The Cool TV comes back in this market, it won't be on this station or any station owned by that company.
That may be the case but there are a few assumptions that may not remain valid over time. First, that neither Mako (who owns K31GL) nor TheCoolTV has had a change of heart. Second, that the terms Mako sets for lease of a subchannel are the same for every station they own in the DFW market. And third, that economic conditions (e.g., competing stations) remain the same. If any of these change, TheCoolTV could make a new deal with Mako, either on K31GL or on another station.

Presumably K31GL added 31.5 for some reason. We've learned it's not ThisTV. You're probably right that it's not for TheCoolTV either, but I wouldn't dismiss the possibility completely.

The Cool TV is one of those subchannels that was nice to have, but not something I watched for hours on in. It seems to have grown in popularity since it disappeared here. Everytime a new subchannel is mentioned someone jumps on here begging for The Cool TV to be put on. It's pure wishful thinking.

In this case, there's ample reason to think that 31.5 will not be The Cool TV. Sure, Mako could have changed their fees and The Cool TV could have more cash and be willing to buy their way on to a Mako station. But there's no evidence to that either way.

There are many subchannels I've seen listed on rabbitears.info that seem like channels I'd like to have. Things with news and sports that would be interesting to see. I'm sure 31.5 will be another spanish religious station. That seems to be what most low power subchannels are in this area.

Unfortunately you are probably right. After all, they only have KPFW, KVFW, 34.2, 50.2 and 58.4, with KQFW and KSFW possibly on the way. Clearly the DFW Spanish religious market is woefully underserved ::)

What's worse is seeing the same programming on several different subchannels.
I would love to see America One, Mhz Worldwide and Euronews on some subchannels. Don't know how good they are, but I'd like to find out.

Seems like LPTV has turned into AM radio. Brokered whatever that constantly comes and goes.

You are right, so many interesting programming possibilities, yet we get same ol', same ol'. What a waste.

I'd also like to get AMGTV back. They were on KHPK/3 for a while, then they moved to 31.4, then they were replaced by RTV. RTV is better but AMGTV did have a few shows worth watching.

At least K31GL left 31.5 blank rather than wasting bandwidth duplicating another subchannel like KPFW and KLEG are doing.

31.5's been blank for several weeks now. You'd think they wouldn't have programmed it in back in October unless they expected to have some programming to put up by now. Curiouser and curiouser.

You're mostly right. K31GL has been somewhat of an exception though - at least for the upper subchannels.

31.1 is a religious network (Genesis), and 31.2 used to be the Spanish-language version of the Genesis network. Then there was a big reshuffle, and Mexicanal moved from 34.2 to 31.2, while 34.2 picked up another Spanish religious network (Almavision) that was on 38.4 for a while! ::)

But 31.3 has been TheCoolTV and is now HOT TV, while 31.4 has been AMGTV and is now RTV. All four were/are good channels that appeal to a reasonably broad range of viewers.

So the question is, will 31.5 bring back Spanish Genesis or something similar, or will it be more like 31.3 and 31.4?
