34 Hours of Christian Programming on The Zone

Yes, they were WNRB from 1995-1997ish.

Indeed. They were owned by Communicom at the time. I was the board-op the evening of the flip from Christian Contemporary to One-on-One Sports. The other folks working there during the last days of the Christian format were terrific people. I thoroughly enjoyed my short time there.

For those interested, the format change to sports happened in mid-December 1997.

Also, a number of WNRB programs from the Communicom days can still be found on the Boston AM dial. Skippy White was doing the Gospel Train on Saturday nights and Pastor Frank Tamilio's "Selah" program can be heard on WEZE (before that, WROL). I board-op'd for Chuck Morse's talk show which aired Monday-Friday evenings from 7:00-9:00PM. Apparently, he just started doing middays on WCCM (1110). Another good guy, by the way.

I really enjoyed WNRB when they were around. They really gave WEZE a run for their money! In the end, it made WEZE a better radio station as a result.

But in the end (well, OK, the end of 1510's WNRB incarnation) Communicom could not make the nut of the fixed expenses (mainly the lease on the transmitter site) and was fortunate to find Paul Allen, who paid to take the white elephant off its back. (Back then, Allen was richer than Croesus; now, I hear, he's only AS rich;>) Allen thought he was too rich to care about the expenses. but eventually, he did care. Meanwhile Salem, which is Communicom's larger competitor, has fallen on hard times and has been selling signals and exiting some markets. Communicom still lives, however. Anyone know if they've been experiencing the same problems as Salem? Does Communicom stock trade publicly?

Communicom is still around? What do they own? Also, I thought that Salem's biggest competition if you can call it that is Educational Media Foundation intead. Commercially I guess it would be either Bott Radio Network or Family Radio instead.

What's this "Global TV and Radio Network" listed all over the WWZN schedule posted at http://www.1510thezone.com/ ? Also look at the way they misspelled Brother Stair's name.

Global Ministries is Bruce Wall's organization. He is a great guy and very important to the community. I worked with him and he is the real deal.
