35 years of WLYF.....1970-2005.....

Surprised no one posted on this....heritage radio station revisiting its history, even if for a weekend. Very classy, Otter63. Well done.

Is it me, or at about 6pm did I hear a liner with an old (or rerecorded) WLYF jingle from the '70s or '80s embedded in front of CSN&Y's "Our House" in the middle of the Time Capsule Weekend on 101.5?? Thought I heard "Life is Beautiful...."

LITE FM doing this just before a possible flip?? (/hearty laugh and rhetorical remark)

Seriously, would love to hear more classic 'LYF liners and jingles regularly, even if they're embedded in modern/currents. Maybe?

Thanks for the nod. The jingle you heard at :49 throughout the weekend is an original from the late 70s, best we can tell (there's no date on the reel, though the cue sheet is photocopied on that old thermal copier paper); the a cappella vocal was lifted from WLYF's "Where Life is Always Beautiful" series.

Unfortunately, precious little audio survives from WLYF prior to 1990 -- except for a few airchecks and recorded liners. Amazingly, preserving and archiving the station's history hadn't been a priority ... and "running a skimmer cassette" apparently wasn't SOP for beautiful music announcers. We've salvaged and transferred to digital whatever we could.

For years we've been searching for materials from WLYF's predecessor, WWPB (owned and managed by Paul Brake until he sold to Sudbrink in 1970) ... but no luck locating anyone from the Brake family. Even the FCC has had trouble finding us a copy of the station's original construction permit (which we believe dates from 1948).

If any Radio-Info readers know anything about WWPB's heritage, please share.

All I can say is "That's LYF."
