360 Systems Digicart Problem

Has anyone else ever had a 360 Systems Digicart Machine get stuck repeating a portion of audio like a stuck needle on a record? We have one where I work that’s doing it on both the internal hard drive as well as the Bernoulli floppy disks. Does it just need a new internal hard drive?

Thanks,

R

That's what it used to do to me when it had trouble reading from the SCSI zip drive.
______________

Thanks Sam.

In your case was it just affecting the Zip drive? Or did it also cause problems for the internal hard drive? In our case, it’s affecting both the internal and Bernoulli drive (yes we still have older digicart models that use Bernoulli disks.) I’ve had to power it down each time it happens, in some cases three or four times for the same audio file. Not always happening at the same portion of the audio file either.

It was just from a bad disk on the zip drive. When the internal drive crapped out the unit just didn't work at all...chief engineer had to replace it. Luckily, that was before I started using the zip drive on it...I bet I would have been thrown under the bus if it happened after I put the zip drive on it.

I forget the key sequence off hand, but perhaps formating the drive would fix things. If it's fragmented or if there's some software related glitch that may fix it.
______________

Yeah I tried that, to no avail. I guess we'll have to send it off.

Oh well....

Thanks Sam

If it's a smoking pile of junk, I'd be happy to take it off your hands ;)
______________

It's a skippingskippingskippingskippingskippingskippingskippingskippingskipping piece of junk. ;) You and me both, I'd love to have one as well. :)

Must. Have. 360.

There was one on ebay about a year ago that sold REAL cheap. I almost donated 5 pints of blood with a kidney just to get it.
______________

We have 2 Shortcuts and I hated them and wanted to throw them off the roof until they made a conversion kit to do away with the SCSI drives. Now, they are rock solid they have not crashed once nor have they died in 2+ years. I was replacing the drives before almost twice a year.

I still would rather have a shortcut :)
______________

That sounds like massively cheap drives. SCSI drives last yeeeeeeeeeears and are built tough for 24/7 usage and lots of disk access.

The only problem is they tend to make a lot of noise after a while. Noise + broadcast studio != good.
______________

This makes me wonder what kind of hard-drive is in our faulty Digicart machine. We have four of these machines. We got all four of them at the same time, around late 1991. The faulty one had a new hard-drive installed a few years ago. I was amazed at how quiet the whole unit was when it was reinstalled. The other three machines are noisy as hell. The one in the on-air studio seems to be the worst. You can really hear the thing whining and whirring. Maybe it’ll die soon. ;) How quiet are the Digicart II’s?

One of my SCSI drives is so loud that you have to shut the door to the room otherwise it bugs people elsewhere. Another one is so-so. The 3rd is still pretty quiet. Drives are only about 5 years old.
______________
