Pardon if this was already a topic. Too lazy to search! Edit or non-edit? Helen Keller or non-Helen Keller?

I would go with the Edit... The Hellen Keller lyrics are not only offensive to some people, but its also annoying as hell..... Plus, I think the whole verse that says Shush girl, shut your lips, do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips,,, That might offend some female listeners and adverts... If your in a bigger city, or your a Rock Leaning CHR with more male listeners like KXRQ 94.3 Channel X... you could probably air it unedited.. Its not that new of a song, its been on several Modern Rockers for awhile now.... It would be a decent Rock-Electronica record if it wasnt offensive and had a much better video,, he needs to lose the glasses.. Personally id like to see other Electro Rock--Alt dance on CHR,,, like the goth band MGMT, and Pendulum.... That would be hard to sneak in on the Adult leaning CHRs, especially the cumulous ones, but I could see these bands working at a station like WNOU Indianapolis, or Power hits 97.5 Junction city Kansas and other stations that take chances on cutting edge new music, and are very Current intensive.

Radio Now in Indi is indeed the station that is helping to break the 3Oh3 record on CHR right now where it's getting about 45 spins per week.
The song is also getting nearly 40 spins at another one of my favorite CHRs, Milwaukee's 103.7 Kiss FM. I've noticed WXSS just posted its best ratings EVER with over an 8 share 12+, good for second place. Huge numbers for any CHR, let alone one in the 40 biggest markets.

Another one of my favorite CHRs, B-97 New Orleans, has it in its Top 20. B-97 is currently the only CHR/Pop station playing a big guilty pleasure record of mine - GS Boyz "Stanky Leg"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNW7QdM2Kw8

Who else is playing 3Oh3? Another one of my favorite CHRs - Q-92 out in Canton is giving it nearly 30 spins. Other perrenial station favorites like Z-104 Madison, 96.9 Kiss FM Amarillo, 98.5 Kiss FM Peoria, 106.9 K-Hits Tulsa, 101.1 WIXX Green Bay, KJ 103 Oklahoma City, Kiss FM Dallas, and more.
Speaking of Kiss FM Dallas, I've been noticing that they're helping to bring The Offspring's "Kristy Are You Doing Okay" on CHR. Nice :)

WNOU in Indy is a very Active Hits type station, often breaking alot of hits that stations like Z-100 pr KIIS wont yet play, even playing alot of new hip Hop before the rhythmics do... They still trail behind us on Dance music, but they do have a killer Dance Show on Saturday night, and have the Shorty at 9 on weeknights, mostly hip hop, but sometimes dance is played... WNOU has top notch High Energy DJs too, Im not sure why more stations havent used the NOW slogan other than 97 NOW in Lansing Michigan... WNOU wasnt the first to use the Now Slogan,,, B-96 used to be known as 96 now,, and played the top 5 songs every hour in the early 80s,, thats what WNOU did for the first 6 months, and the overnights was all Dance-hip Hop mixshows back then. I cant believe Kiss in Milwaukie is one of your favs Chrles,,,, its Okay, but there are so many better stations out there, I tend to favor either the Rock Leaning and or dance friendly ones... Im burnt out on the standard Hip Hop beats, but the stuff from last summer was good, and I like Flo-Rida's Right Round which is kinda Breakbeat style, and I like Neyo's latest Ballad-Mad....

As far as the Now radio name, there's a strong possibility the new CHR coming to NYC this week will be labelled as Radio Now 92.3

103.7 Kiss FM Milwaukee has been a favorite of mine for ages. It used to be more Dance friendly, but they've pretty much always stayed on the Active Hits side of thing, and are early on a lot of good Rhythmic tracks.
A couple of my favorite Hip Hop jams right now aren't yet receiving any CHR/Pop airplay, but some Rhythmics have been championing
Young L.A. "Ain't I" (another hot track that features T.I. in it, and a good verse from Young Dro as well)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-pGzIYHES8

Slim Thug "I Run" (the chorus is based on a well known early 80s hit, "I Ran" by A Flock of Seaguls)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My1e0WUX9j8

We're playing it with the "do the Hellen Keller...", but it's dayparted to nights only.  You can get away with a little more at night...but it'll be edited if we play 3OH!3 in the daytime since we're in the upper Midwest Bible belt *shrug*.  And KDWB added it this week.

While a lot of programmers say it's not necessary anymore since you're dividing up audience loyalty, thus killing cume, but some of the best stations still daypart (I personally wouldn't daypart to an extreme as being Hot AC in the day and CHR at night, but there's some stations where that works for them).

We're on the Offspring (that's about the closest thing to a ballad they've done) and added Kings of Leon "Use Somebody".

If your a dance friendly chr, its best to daypart the newer stuff to before 3 PM, and after 10 PM when Kids arent listening, and you can play more Hip Hop in the evenings when the at work crew is gone, and the kids are tuned in.... not to the point of most Cumulous stations though, some of them sound AC during the day, and Adult top 40 at best by nights. You dont have to wait till 6 or 7 to start playing the hotter stuff like most Cumulous stations like Q-100 and 103 WKFR do... Indy's WNOU doesnt seem to daypart at all,,, the first time I heard Afro Man's because I got high was during morning drive....

Kiss 103.7 FM in Milwaukee was the 1st CHR station to add 3OH!3. They have been on it for a couple of months...it has been consistently one of the most requested songs from females...even with the Helen Keller portion left in. I agree Mid West Clubber...there should be more dance rock...it seems like a no brainer for what has been succeeding on the chr charts of late. I think most stations are too nervous to test the waters even though times are changing...Hip Hop and urban product is not what it use to be...

It looks like the 3 oh 3 is a mega hit now,, Also, I kinda like the direction CHR radio is moving in now, mor Pure POP music,, some R&B Rhythmic Ballads and POP Ballads, and the Hip Hop is getting better both Lyrically, and artists like AKON and Flo Rida using Breakbeats and Synth style from dance music.... I hope MGMT makes it to the USA,,, they are one of my favorite bands now, and their music could work at CHR,,, Dance, and especially Modern Rock...

Helen Keller or non-Helen Keller?
Reminds me of the lyrics to Funkdoobiest's "Bow Wow Wow" which were not edited from WHYT, Detroit back when the tune was out...(all the cussing was though, of course making it sound like nonsense)
"I'm a good fella...and a good speller...then I get retarded like Helen Keller"

Alright, the song's been picking up steam at Z-100 New York, and is now starting to get some airplay during the evening hours on 102.7 KIIS FM out in L.A.

This one kinda surprised me,, everyone seems to love it.. If this song would work here, why not try playing MGMT-Kids..... Similar electro Rock sound.

That's funny. I heard this, but for some odd reason it never occured to me to mention it on here. I'm not sure how much I like the song yet, but was indeed happy that I heard it on the radio.

I feel bad for saying this, but it's true. I got tired of it, and now it seems that this time instead of me having to turn around and go after it, things are instead going towards the direction I like most. I'm talking about hip hop. I've been lacking on keeping myself updated with the latest hip hop hits, but it seems that these days I don't have to worry because much of the stuff I'm REALLY into is becoming mainstream hit music again. This doesn't mean I'm not willing to play hip hop hits, but, just like many others out there, my preference in music is somewhere else.

I Believe WXSS in Milwaukee thought similar...They were the 1st CHR station to take a chance on 3OH!3. A couple of weeks ago they tried MGMT -"Time To Pretend", but it does not seem to be working for that song. It seems as of late our local alternative station is having a bit of an influence on them.

Admittedly, the song has a great sound to it, but WHY did 3OH3 have to add such trashy lyrics? Honestly, they completely ruined a fine melody and beat. This and a lot of other CHR songs in the last few years especially are poster children for censorship.

I guess it's about time I get this song. I still never have payed attention to the lyrics.. but I guess it's doing well, and I'm sure there are remixes out there to find if I search.

I agree. I rarely get offended at lyrics. For example, I have no problem at all with "If U Seek Amy". But I HATE these lyrics with a passion. This guy sounds like such a jerk. I have been listening to music for a long time and I have never in my life had such a negative reaction to a song before..

Have we not sat through hearing lyrics like "G**damn the pusher man" or "she never lost her head...even when she was givin' ****" ?
Those lyrics would offend me more than these lyrics. Granted, tasteless, but some people like tasteless humor. ;)

Disclaimer: I am going to overanalyze a song that was never meant to be analyzed. I realize they just needed to fill this song with any stupid lyrics to go along with the beat.

I guess the reason "Don't Trust Me" is so offensive to me is the frequent use of the word "ho". I dislike that word because those who use it are trying to control female sexuality. The Lou Reed song you mentioned is not offensive to me because he is not insulting the woman "even when she was givin h". He isn't judging her as being someone you can't trust just because she is a sexual being.

I remember when I first heard "The Wanderer" and "Runaround Sue" by Dion in the early 80s. Those songs were oldies by then. Here was a guy bragging about what a stud he was yet being super critical of Sue for doing the same thing he does. I remember being impressed with how far our culture advanced. The sexual double standard was gone by then, at least in popular culture and hit music. If I would have known then that in 2009 it would come roaring back, this time in a song much more mean spirited than Dion ever was, I would have been horrified. At least Dion was consistent, he warned to "keep away" from Sue. While 3oh3 both criticize the "ho" while at the same time get what they can from her.

I should add that the edited version of the song played on most stations takes out the most offensive lyrics of this song.
