3WS PD

AAAUUUGGGHHH!!!! Enough already!!!!

Oldies cat, did you ever factor in that 3WS is the only "Oldies" format in the Pittsburgh metro? I'm sure the "smoking" numbers Mr. Gillespe had could've been done by any competent programmer. Did you ever go on-line and research a sample playlist? It sure looked, and sounded like, 'DVE Light. If you're basing your opinions on what you read, remember looks can be deceiving. Come to Pittsburgh and actually listen to the station sometime.

I'm not going to pass judgement on Mr. Gillespe himself for the simple fact that I don't know the man, nor do I work at CC so I can't relay hearsay and rumours. But in radio, I think you can be fired for other things NOT related to ratings and/or billing. I'll let someone else specualte on why he was fired.

This is getting almost a bad as analyzing Steeler games.

AAAUUUGGGHHH!

Just thank goodness Tommy Maddox isn't the new PD at 3WS. <LOL>

Honestly, no market in America really has more than one Oldies station. I don't know the cat, either- he may be the jerk people say. My ONLY issue with these other folks was their assertion that "thank God he's gone- he was taking 3WS down in flames" and two of your fellow Pittsburgh(ers) are confusing the fact that nobody liked the PD with "their ratings were falling"- they weren't. But these gents continue to distort the station's performance, then attempt to spin out of it by attacking me and putting words in my mouth.

I'm sure glad neither of these aces are involved in day-to-day Pittsburgh radio. That means there is hope.

Cat-

The ratings of Mr. Gillispie's tenure are significantly lower and inconsistent than those previous program directors of 3WS.

Radio Realist-

My background this past decade is almost identical to yours. I think we both can add and do add good, sage, advice. I am also making a ton more money than when I was working at a radio station.

My hope is that the younger readers of this forum accept that we've "been there" and are only suggesting ideas and opinions because we've experienced the problem (or know the solution).

Unfortunately, there are a bunch of bitter and unhappy radio people on this board.

What a "cop-out" answer OldiesCat! I think it's time you stick to an area's board that's near Detroit. If you're not reading a thread correctly, then you're twisting people's words. Grow up!

People such as Radio Realist, myself, and others are telling you the TRUTH and you dismiss it as people bragging, when in reality, we're once again letting you know what's out there in LIFE!

Please keep your bitterness off this board.

nope

No bitterness at all. You and your buddy are clearly in denial. How you can look at the past year's Arbitron ratings and in the next breath say something you know is not truthful really reveals the kind of world you exist in.

Pleas Email me evidence of your claim. If you can't back it up, it's time to stop this nonsense.

No, it was time to stop this nonsense when I told you of the real reasons Gillispie was fired, a good book or not. I do believe I even wrote "thread closed" or something like that and you came back and attacked.

I am not going to email you personally, because I don't have the time to correspond with someone who refuses to see the true reasons why someone like Gillispie was fired. And, as was stated, you are not in Pittsburgh, probably never heard 3WS before he was here, and then when he was here. It's a world of difference.

YOU are the one who is in denial. Please try to keep an open mind on future posts, that perhaps you do not know ALL that is involved? And, please try to understand the post that I wrote about accepting other people's life experience and learning from it. Bitterness and jealousy do not have a place in a successful man's career.

Have a great life OldiesCat.

Mr. Music

confirmation

I knew it- no balls to back it up with proof. Thanks for the confirmation.

Thanks for proving MY point!

I don't have the time to email you all the trends and other sales-oriented documents. And, quite frankly, a lot of this information is not for the public record and is confidential material.

Besides, you don't deserve this information OldiesCat.

Yes, I have the balls, just not the time.

Now, get over this, please.

Mr. Music

the time?

What a doofus. You've had the time to respond to dozens of Email posts. Again, thank you for being out of radio.

Ya big wuss.

Here's a counter offer. Reveal your airname and what radio station you work for here, in public, for everyone to see. Prove that you have 25 years of experience at a major radio station, and not 25 years on some AM daytimer.

I only said that I made more money working in marketing than I made working in radio. I didn't say I was "swimming in dough".

Since when does solving problems in one business mean one cannot solve them in another. The problem I couldn't solve was how to remain active in radio and also accept a job offer in marketing that paid better, with better hours and fringe benefits. I solved the problem by making a choice, one which I do not regret.

So tell us, how is it that you remained stuck in radio for 25 years? Didn't you have the talent to move up into television or movies?

VERY mature OldiesCat! Now, you're down to name-calling! And, who's the 5th grade girl here?

You keep proving my point on being a bitter, jealous, immature person. Keep doing that, would you?

If you were able to read, and not try to attack, I told you I don't have the time to gather that information, and more importantly, it is NOT for your eyes. (that is what "confidential" means. I know I posted that it was confidential material). I don't understand why you would think you can be privvy to that.

Please read Radio Realist's above email. We are curious as to who you are, since you seem to have a lot of time on your hands always attacking us.

Re: true wannabe

"Stuck" in radio? You are amazing- as if radio is some red-headed bastard stepchild to TV or movies?

You have just revealed to the rest of the thousands of radio pros who've dedicated themselves and their careers to the original form of show business what an absolute cad you are. You just basically said, "if you're in radio and never made it to movies or television, you're 'stuck'".

"Stuck". Wow.

That's like answering a question with another question. You have my Email- have some guts for the first time in your life and Email me the proof you have of the claim that 3WS' ratings fell during Gillespie's reign.

Well, how, then, can you make a claim FIRST, then have to dig to back it up? That means you should never have made such a false claim in the first place. You tell me I'm full of crap a dozen times, yet you've made a statement NOT based on fact.
Hilarious.

Arbitron ratings information "not for my eyes"? Where the heck do you think I got my information? I wouldn't ever just toss out a statement I couldn't back up, which you obviously would and did.

I'd love to continue doing this battle of the radio minds, but it's not fair fighting with an unarmed boy. Over and out, pretenders.

(though it's been a lot of fun dangling the sugar cube out to you and Unrealist for several days with lots of radio pros watching you twist in the wind. Beautiful!).

The "original form of show business"? That will sure come as news to the people who thought that tage plays (which date back to before the ancient Greeks) was around before radio, as was vaudeville, circuses, minstrels, and the like. Are you now telling us all that there was no show business before KDKA's historic broadcast in 1920?

And if you want to twist what I said, let it be known that I was simply making the point that your condemnation of my choice to leave radio is no more valid than a counter claim that your choice to stay on your little 1,000 watt daytime station was because you had no other option.

OldiesCat-

Please, please get a life!!

I am not sending you correspondence between my agency and Clear Channel. Nowhere on it does it have "OldiesCat" in any To: or send: field. You are not privvy to this private and confidential material. I know I wrote this in a previous post, why can't you comprehend that?

Once again, if you can READ correctly, you would've known I wasn't talking about Arbitron ratings books.

My statements are based on facts. Get over yourself!

Once again, Greg Gillispie was FIRED for both personal and professional reasons.
