3WS Playing Christmas Music Already

I've been listening to 3WS tonight and they are playing Christmas music. I thought to myself maybe clear channel is starting earlier this year with the Christmas Music. Then I thought to myself, no way would they start before Halloween.

There are no DJ's on now and the promo on 3WS said we will snap out of the Christmas music on Monday.

Is this just for the weekend or is a new format really coming on Monday?

I'm at a total loss to figure what they would flip to. They seem to want to run the X as a mix of new rock and sports, so your guess is as good as mine.

Another interesting thing Parttimer is that there are no DJ's on. Mike Frazier is usually on from 4-9. I bet 3WS just tweaks their format a bit.

I'm sure we remember when "The Zone" played Christmas music last October prior to the switch back to B94. I thought 3WS ratings were pretty good. If they tweak their format, what parts would they tweak?

I don't listen to 3WS at all, so don't know the personalities or really what format they usually play, however today I decided to flip over and heard a Christmas song play. After it was over there was a female voice saying that coming up was Pitt Panther football. It sounded like she was live anyway. I can't imagine it will be a complete overhaul, but if so, please give us an active rock station.

Nor would an active rock station, CC owns 3WS and the X.
Maybe The X as we know it will go FM Sports and 3WS goes Alternative or Active Rock....doubt it but....

No way does Pittsburgh need another country format.

Can't see what sense an FM sports station would make in the CC cluster, either. They would be chasing a more narrow niche than The X does now.

Might no format change occur? I noticed many of the bumpers are reminding listeners that the Christmas music continues Monday on their web site. Could this be a simple way to drive office listening to the web Monday?

I don't expect a format change. The station is evolving, and I believe it will continue to evolve. (One of these days, I expect the 60's music to disappear.)

Also, visit their web site, and notice how much bigger "94.5" is than "3WS." If we can presume that 3WS = Oldies (which I suspect is still true at least in part), I will not be surprised to see a name change.

Wow Clarke! That's really extrapolating. I just chalk that up to a really bad graphic department/management who doesn't really know what a great logo should look like. To me, the 3WS logo is very amateur at best.

But, let's see how many people run with the notion of a name change, just as some (Todd, I believe you're one of them) did with my silly rumor of country. 3WS is not flipping format. It was fun to see how many went off on that. ;D

Eh, could be. But I remember the old "circus clown"-style logo (at least that's what some of us called it) where the "3WS" was much bigger than the "94.5," and the new one sure looked like a change of emphasis to me.

Whoever was in charge of creating the holiday website can't spell. Stream Chrismas Variety Commercial Free. Where is the t in Christmas?

Maybe it is just the war on Christmas we keep hearing about.
