3WS Sunday Night Diner

3WS has been promoting this week about the return of the Sunday Night Diner. I sent one of the jocks an email asking who was going to take over for the late RD Summers, but received no reply. Another listener called Jim Merkel and asked on the air who was replacing RD, but Jim said he couldn't say. Does anyone have any inside info as to whom the new Oldies Diner DJ will be?

FRANKIE DAY FROM 770 WKFB, He Will Play True Pittsburgh Oldies .Not the same Small Playlist Poor Mix 3WS Calls Oldies. If you listen today at 710 pm the same song plays the next day at 710 pm.

The only legendary Top-40 jock I can think of who's still in Pittsburgh is Jim Quinn. (Not that the show needs to originate locally anymore..).

And he works in the building.....

3WS hasn't called its music "oldies" in several years.

With all the 80's and early 90's music that 3WS plays now, I wonder how long it will be until 3WS changes its name to classic hits 945

Here's what their website says regarding the Diner:
--

The Sunday Night Diner returns this Sunday

The show will be hosted by the entire 3ws air staff.

The Sunday Night Diner will air from 7pm - 10pm

Requests and dedications are welcome during the show by calling 412-333-9450

E-mail requests to Bob Benedik - Executive Producer

Gee whiz. I thought 3WS is a classic hits station . I do think it would be great to have Dougie back. He used to get a lot of E-Mail requests from people all over Florida, not just me.

The staff (Merkel, Sheri, Mike Frazer) voice tracked some lines for the show. Bob Benedik was in the studio. He put things together with the VT stuff and recorded a few callers for requests.

Must have been Benedik who I heard because he wasn't a member of the regular airstaff. I know what they sound like. This guy sounded gruff (and rough)(as in green)

There was one Sunday back in the mid-1990s where Charlie Apple did part of the Sunday Diner broadcast with R.D. (Did anyone aircheck it?) Would he or one of the other oldies collectors make a good host?

Short answer: No.

The Diner is so out of tune with what the station is now, I wouldn't be surprised if they continue with this patched-together effort for a while, then let the show fade away.
