40 Top Cinti Radio Personalities

It's a photo gallery on the Enquirer website and based on popularity and longevity. The list is supposed to be talent since 1973.

How different would it have been if only DJ's (no news or sports personalities) were included? And who did they miss from the list? For example, I suspect "longevity" is what kept persons like Casey Piotrowski or Jay Baker off the list. Perhaps a list that included "talent" as a factor would have been too subjective? Sadly, the cut-off date keeps talent like WSAI's Dick "Paul" Purtan off the list.

Your thoughts?

Went to correct a typo, hit quote by mistake and ended up offering an "encore broadcast." Sorry.

It's a shame Carmine Guzman didn't make the list. He's the best radio talk show host Cincinnati has ever had.

It's also a shame nobody from WCLU made the list. Or Steve Hawkins from Q-102.

I'm not sure why the past 40 years was chosen for the period of time. Fifty sounds like a much nicer number and would include some that were at or just before that 40 year period.

Nice Job John!

The 40 year thing is kinda odd though.

Pretty good list---- Missing Alan Browning, Traffic guys John Phillips, Bobby Leach, Lt Jim Stanley and some bigger WSAI names than some of those on the list. Paul Purtin, Jack Stahl, Larry Clark, Casey Piotrowski--- Also forgot some legends that had a cup of coffee here on 1230-- Bwanna Johnny, Big Al Law-- maybe not a huge impact here- but titans of radio---AND what about Carmine hee! hee! hee!

and really---the DJ with the (Pretty sure) highest ratings in the market's history (Dusty) being so low on your list--- Did you just get your property tax bill? ;D

ahh bummer--- I used up all my free trips to the Enquirer web site. With the new print format the paper no longer works for my bird cage either.

ramble over---

Thanks for stirring up some good memories!

My guess is to be able to work in "Top 40" in the headline.

Excellent point Marty. Big Al should have been on the list for sure as well as Bill Todd, or The Cat" as he was called when he programmed WKRQ during the "Listen We Think We Have Found You" in 1973 and early 74. His format might not have been all that successful but some of us loved the stuff he played that no one station even touched.

As someone who grew up on Dayton radio, I was a huge fan of WLW in the 80s and 90s, and def. remember most of the folks from that era. Also congrats to current Q102 afternoon co-host Brian Douglas for coming in at #19. He's still got it after 25+ years at the station. Also good to see Marty & Joe in the Top 5. Hard to argue with Jim Scott at #1. He's an institution in Cincy, and unreal how long he's been #1 in the market on WLW, outside of his departures to YES and WWNK. Congrats Jim!

Excellent presentation! Lotsa awesome memories! Had you gone back a little further you may have added Roy Cooper, one of my favorites on top-40 WSAI.

Marty, Ron Britain had a 72 share on 'SAI.

Carmine Guzman wasn't on the air very long. You had to be on for a few years at least. Wildman Walker wouldn't have made my Top 400! I never understood what the big deal was about him. He didn't do anything controversial, creative or funny on the air. He just read a straight sportscast in that nasal drone of his. Other than introducing his 'cast with, "Sports Rockers..." & ending with the worn out phrase, "____ forever, ____ never", there was nothing special about him. The billboard thing was a promotional gimmick, not on-air talent.
