I did not think "The Price is Right" would be honored in the category of "Outstanding Game Show" ever again after Bob Barker's retirement due to Drew Carey's hosting and the unnecessary changes to the program since then.

A technical error prevented a video recording about Monty Hall from being shown during the awards ceremony before he received his Lifetime Achievement Award. I was very interested in watching the tributes to him and Bob Stewart (a video recording about his life was shown without any problems before his son Sande accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award on his behalf).

^Headline News broadcast the awards ceremonies for 2013 and 2012 because other broadcasters were not interested in broadcasting the ceremony for 2012.

Why didn't a major network show it

Minimal ratings.

The majors used to rotate the program and air during the daytime. The show went primetime in the 1990s, often airing during May sweeps and combined with some type of primetime airing of their daytime show. I recall that Days of Our Lives had a couple of primetime "special episodes" airing @8PM, followed by the Daytime Emmys @9PM. Ratings faltered (crashed actually...at one point the show was top-rated). The show slipped into the post-sweeps June doldrums and all the networks finally opted to not air the program. 2009 was salvaged by The CW, which aired the awards in late summer 2009 (2008 eligibility).

After that, some production company bought two hours of primetime on CBS to show the 2010 and 2011 awards, packaging it as a Las Vegas infomercial. Believe me, it was worse than it even sounds. The awards were held in Vegas and fully 25% of the show was sponsored, featuring taped bits at various casinos. Fans howled.

HLN picked up the 2012 version just a few weeks before it was scheduled and I recall it was a rather straightforward presentation. The show wasn't all that memorable, although I don't recall it being the hideous mess that last night's program turned out to be.

Oh, last year was terrible too. They only had one music cue that looped over and over and over, and the same kind of bad presentation, but because it was given to HLN with only a few weeks to spare, there wasn't time to rope the HLN anchors to host the show. This year was definitely worse (I didn't know I was actually watching the Robin Meade Album Release Party), but last year was just as ripe with difficulties. At least this year they didn't have an award for viral video like AOL sponsored last year.

But don't forget the highlight of the show when the ladies of "The Talk" were on stage to present the Best Informative Show and they gave Aiesha Taylor the wrong envelope. Fortunately, she was able to realize the name on the winning card was not even in that category and she quickly put it back in the envelope (first she demanded another envelope with lots of money and a puppy in it, later when the real envelope came out, she said their better be a cocktail at her table).

Another major award presented:

Morning News Program - Sunday Morning (CBS), beating out Good Morning America and the Today Show.

And the "some production company" that did the 2010 and '11 telecasts was Associated Television International, the makers of "Laura McKenzie's Traveler" and "The World's Funniest Moments". They probably have the same crappy production values than, say...Entertainment Studios (Byron Allen's company), because unlike them, ATI couldn't afford to get real sponsors for their shows!

The mere sight of an Emmys broadcast on HLN shudders me (Like there wasn't a better place for it, seriously?)

Better question - Why isn't this ceremony just streamed online since that seems to be the @Work audience seems to be where Daytime TV seems to be headed anyway (One needn't look any further than the success of AC stations on radio & AC as a genre as proof of the size of this audience)

Cheers & 73 ;D

Did anyone see Corbin Bernsen's F-bomb? During the tribute to Jeanne Cooper (his mother, of course), he said something along the lines of "Mom would have said, "At least I made the *****list!'" Grandpa Hughes and Papa Bauer are spinning in their graves.
