42 Inch Vizio TV

The news traveled through my Walmart life fire through dry grass. A customer bought eight (8) 42 inch Vizio TVs today. It came to around $4500. He wanted more, but we only had 8 in stock, so he had to go to another Walmart. He had to call his credit card company to get the approval for the purchase and the store manager also had to approve the sale. He says he has 12 bedrooms in his house.

Only $562 for a 42 inch HDTV? I would say that was a rather intelligent guy! He waited for a great price and he got it! Something tells me that he really got these TV's to resell on eBay. But I guess the real reason doesn't matter. Like I said.... $562 for a 42 inch HDTV. SMART MAN to grab as many as he could.

Someone once told me that the Vizio tv's sold at Walmart are lesser quality than the Vizio tv's sold at other stores like Sears or Best Buy. Something to do with lower picture resolution and fewer input sources. Not sure if it's true or not.

Why would they be any different in quality? Anyways, I hear that Vizio TVs are actually made by Sony. True or not? Lastly, that other store called wasn't Newington (CT) by chance, was it? ;)

I went to the Walmart website. Looked up this TV. Read the reviews and saw a bunch of real happy people. Apparenty it's a nice Television.

I actually noticed that a few days ago, when I was in Best Buy, the price has really come down on 40" and 42" TVs. Last winter, I think a 42" cost like $900 or so, and now they've come down to like $500 or $600. I was sort of bummed, because I actually bought a dinky 32" LCD TV from Samsung, and I kind of wanted a bigger size. Hopefully, they come down even more soon.

Walmart sucks.

Maybe it sucks to work there. I wouldn't know. But it sure doesn't suck when you want a good deal on things. I'm going there later on today to pick up a few things.

Most stores pricematch. I'd rather go elsewhere for the same deal where the employees don't treat customers as a nuisance. Just a dehumanizing spirit in that place.

My experience has been the opposite. I always get greeted when I walk in and the cashier is always pleasant as well. I guess as in life, some people suck. Others don't.

I'm pleasant to 99% of my customers when they come to my register. And some I joke with - i.e. a customer comes in my line wearing a Redsox shirt on the day they're playing they Yankees I'll say to them - We Yankees are gonna get your butt tonight. A guy coming through my line the day before Valentines Day and buys a vaccum I'll say to them "You better not be getting that for your wife or you'll really be in trouble." And I also keep my customers informed on what's going on with the store - i.e. The Remodel will be finished on September 30th, and did you know we price match? Those eggs you're spending $1.29 for are only 79 cents at Price Chopper. If you have your Price Chopper sales flier with you I'll gladly change the price of the eggs to 79 cents for you.

C'mon Marc...let's see you do this on a busy Saturday! As for the remodel, good luck! We had ours done just recently. :O

Most of my co-workers have no complaints about the remodel aside that most of the females don't like the fact that the restrooms are closed and they have to go do their business in a trailer outside that is hooked up to plumbing and air conditioning. It's the customers who are mostly complaining about the remodel. A lot refer to it as a collosal waste of money. And when I tell them Walmart is remodeling more than half the stores in the country, they tell me Walmart should take those millions they're wasting on the remodels and give all the employees $1000 bonuses. ::)

As for Saturdays most of the time (and I don't know why), if I'm scheduled to work on a Saturday I'm only scheduled for 4 hours. (even tho my availability for Saturdays is 8AM-3PM and before that 10AM-7PM). I get a lot of Saturdays off. Today is the 3rd one in a row I've had off. But I'm also not on the register for my whole shift on Saturdays. Sometimes they have me cover the door while the door greeter(s) take their lunch break.

The biggest complaint I have about customers are the rude ones. By rude I mean the ones who talk on their cell phone for the entire time I'm ringing them out and the customers who can't mind their own business. And by not minding their own business I mean some of my regulars who ask me stupid questions about myself. - "Sometimes you wear earrings. Sometimes you don't. Why?" I never answer that question. I wish I could say "Marc's Evil twin wears earrings and Marc does not", but that could be seen as a smart ass remark. What I do is my business and no one elses.

Getting this back to TV...do customers ever ask to see something on that nice Vizio TV other than the company's HD advertising? Ever since our remodel, we lost our connection to that service. To make up for it, we run a "family friendly" Blu Ray movie and wired it so the whole TV wall plays the same thing. Not any better, but they have to show something, right? With Vizio, it's either good or bad with their screen size. We had a lot of problems early on with their 26" models, it seemed, which many of them getting returned or the ignorant customer claiming the set didn't work. Anyways, we seem to do well with them now. By the way, isn't Sony actually making these things?

As for the restrooms, ours were not closed during the remodel, only because they had already been remodeled about 2 years ago in a separate project. We never did the outside trailer thing, but we did have one set of restrooms closed for two weeks or so (back first, then front).

Something isn't right with the new Electronics Dept. Some of TVs have blue screens that say No Signal in white letters. The rest are showing "Race to Witch Mountain". As for the 26 inch Vizio's my parents bought one for the extra bedroom last fall. They had no problems with it, so they bought a 42 inch for the family room back in February.

As for the remodel, Southington is an old Caldor and when they opened as Walmart in 2000 they only put in one set of bathrooms. They said the store was too small to put in a second set. BTW, at least 3 times a day I get a customer asking "Are you closing the store?" They announce on the TV and in the newspaper the New Britain store is closing August 31st and they automatically assume Southington is closing too because the shelves are bare because we're moving stuff around for the remodel.

We got that a couple of times at our store as well. Our remodel is all set, thank goodness! As for an old Caldor store, you're not alone. The New Britain location on Farmington Avenue was also one in its previous life. A Bradlees store once sat on the site that our store is on now. I have to wonder though...is the Cromwell location ever going to get remodeled? The Rocky Hill store was remodeled before ours was.

Anyways...for those of you here not in Connecticut...where else have you seen Vizio sold at? Are they indeed made by Sony? After all, this company had an ad run during Super Bowl XLIII in February. Walmart can't be the only chain that sells it.
