42nd CMA Awards

All right, Here is my opinion.

Last nights show really annoyed me. For starters, how is Rodney Atkins feeling today? 4 number one songs from his album and he still dosen't win New Artist? Oh wait, he started in 2002.....Sorry Rodney, we know you have been around for a while, but we need filler for the best New Artistr Category.....You aren't gonna win, but hey, thanks for playing!
I love Lady Antebellum, but they win on the basis of just one song? Uh, no....

Let's see.....Vocal Duo Of the Year....
Montgomery Gentry, check....Brooks & Dunn, check.....The Wreckers, chec....uh...wait a minute...Do we not have any other duos that are still together that we can nominate? Hmmmm....Seems to me that they tried country music just to see if they could create a buzz then go back to pop music....Typical....

Music event of the Year? Allison Krauss and Robert Plant? Ok let me 'susplaine this one to you...."Ally baby! I know we always nominate you for Female Vocalist of the Year! Well we always need a token, and you are not going to win it again this year, but we will give you a consulation prize! VEOTY! For a song that had oh probably 100 plays on country radio.....(BTw, before you bash me, Allison is gorgeous and I love her music). How this beat out "Shiftwork" is waaaay beyond my understanding.

Also....Taylor Swift.....Beautiful girl, but a Nashville Insider tells me that she really has trouble singing and needs a lot of sweetning help in the recording studio.

All right, to my next complaint....
How is it possible for Sugarland to be nominated for Entertainer of the Year and not Rascal Flatts? I still can't wrap my head around this one! One of the biggest tours on the circuit and no love for the Flatts boys? Unbelievable!

I'm still waiting on the "Suprise Appearance that will have everyone talking". The Eagles coming back to country? Uh no....No wait ...Shania Twain? Excuse me? The country artist that waits 5-8 years between making an album? "Hello all of you in Countryville! It's Shania! Things are great here in Switzerland! I know that I haven't had a new album since 2002, but I can't wait for you to fawn over me and tell me how much Country Music needs me!"
Excuse me? You made some great music before, but I don't think you need the money that bad. Please don't try to pull the wool over our eyes.....and please don't make another album with 3 different genres of music.

The only other complaint I have, besides Kid Rock in country, is that Trace Adkins should get more respect...."You're Gonna Miss This This" was a frontrunner for Song of the Year.

Well there you go....My complaints....Agree or Disagree? I would like to remind everyone that all comments and opinions expressed by this DJ are indeed correct!

Was it just me? I did not see Tim, Garth or Toby. Gee, are they "has beens" already?
Overall-- the CMAs are looking more and more like the tripe they produce in LA. Do we really need a rapper on the CMAs? Is George Strait going to be invited to the BET awards next year? (Gawd, I hope not).

My opinion? I want my 2 hours of life back.

Hahaha, George can find a rapper to rap with.I remember the tune that Tammy Wynette had back in 1991 with KLF's "Justified and Ancient" "(Stand by The JAMs)", That was different.

I actually agree with most of this... especially that Trace should get more respect... YGMT really should have gotten song of the year IMHO. Alison Krauss is way overrated. Seriously! How the heck "Shiftwork" lost out to her and Robert Plant is beyond me. Taylor writes a lot of great songs, but she isn't a great singer... and is it just me or is "Love Story" (the original version) tailor made for CHR/Pop radio?

The only thing I really disagree with you on is about Shania. I say it's nice to have her back. Hopefully her first post-Mutt album will be a little more Country and a little less Pop.

My biggest complaint about the show was actually probably the Eagles appearance... I just don't think they represent Country. Yes, they're great musicians, but they're NOT Country! As much as I love Martina, was it just me or did she seem a little off on her performance? Maybe it was just the song or the production. I've seen her live before and must say she is truly amazing in concert.

As for the highlights, well Brad and Carrie certainly did a GREAT job hosting. And Carrie absolutely NAILED "Just A Dream."

OK...I'll weigh in on this one.

It was interesting that the CMA Awards came one week after the Presidential Election, in which the American people voted for the person to lead the country.

Is the person who won the most qualified out of all elligible people? Is he the best leader? Or is he the one who got the most votes? And I'm not making a criticism here, but just an observation.

Same thing with the CMA Awards. The people who win are the ones who get the most votes. That's the only conclusion you can draw. Not that they're the best singers, the best songs, the best entertainers, or even the best new artists, whatever that means.

At the end of the show, they explained how the winners were chosen: From the 6,000 members of the CMA. First of all, not all of them voted. Then you have to consider the make-up of the CMA. These are industry people, mostly in Nashville, and mostly men. I'd bet they're mostly over 40, not in the Rascal Flatts target demo. While Taylor won Horizon last year, this year she didn't get a music nomination, which tells me that the industry doesn't care for her music. So the industry doesn't like Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, or Toby Keith. No surprise there.

What bothered me is that this year's winners were basically a repeat of last year's winners. But then again, I'm sure this year's voters were basically the same exact people who voted last year. And people complain that country radio seems to play the same songs and artists all the time. Look at the CMA Awards if you want to know why. The TV show won the night in the ratings, so obviously the public loved it.

Well, it looks like even Martina thought the sound was off for her performance... from her Myspace blog:

I was happy with the performance. When I heard it back on the tv later I thought the sound wasn't all that great, but I thought I sang well. I don't know what happens with the sound...seems like after 42 years they could get it right!

So indeed it wasn't Martina that was off... it was the sound.

I remember his son being at one of the awards shows 20 years ago, but it wasn't for his Dad. He wanted to see M. C. Hammer.

To save me the trouble of repeating my comments, and to let the rest of you see more about what was wrong with the show:
