43 KHLM (LP) and 55 KTBU-The Tube

I have satelitte, and do not wish to pay for 'locals' (my choice I know this) but was baffled this past weekend when I tested the signal of both of the stations listed above first in NW Houston and then in Clear Lake to find that low power KHLM 43 has a better (much clearer) in many instances than 55 The Tube.

Where is 43 transmitter site cause I know one of the problems for 55 is their tower is halfway (a joke) to Dallas. I just cannot realisically understand how a low power station can afford a viewable signal and a normal power has an awful signal. TV55 is downright awful with even the best over the air amplified antenna while TV43 coverage flows very well.

Any explanation to this would be appreciated. I know 55 is or may be sold in the future and has gone away from it's classic TV image to now showing paid infomercials (surprise surpise)and shows that are more to lifestyles, home & gardeners and hunting buffs but still, a decent signal is something I've always wondered about this station since it's inception what five years ago?

I understand this is the radio board so feel free to move this but I feel this would be received by more "Houston" audience than the "Texas board".

Here's the antenna I use, works better than RCA, Turk or even the Radio Shack brand which I have found works like a charm. It's the "new" Phillips for only $30.

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3904681>Here's a link to the antenna, if we're not allowed to post links please delete, thanks!</a>

I can receive 2,8,11,13,14,20,21,22,26,33,34,39,43,45,47,49,51,57,61,67 with 55 being downright awful. **I could even receive Ch.30 before with any other amplified**

KTBU's reception problem will be over when the transition to DTV is complete. Their DTV transmitter is in Missouri City and provides an excellent full-power signal in town. With my DTV set top box, I only have a problem receiving KNWS' DTV signal.

55 WAS supposed to be moving their analog to MO City as well..both it and the digital were due to go on the ATC tower. The CP is still active. IF you look at the pattern as shown on the FCC web site, you will see WHY 55 has a terrible signal over Clear Lake and parts of Houston at its current site..it is NOT an OMNI antenna on the current Splendora tower..and in fact has better signal in Beaumont than most of Houston! I know some folks can rcv 55 in Beaumont on indoor antennas!! The MO City antenna will be more omni ...remember 55 is licensed to Conroe, NOT Houston...but supposively moving to the MO City antenna farm will still keep city grade over Conroe..(somehow I just dont buy that)..43 is at MO City NOW so thats WHY they have better signal in Clear Lake..its all location and antenna pattern ;)
