5.8 Ghz stl link

A few months back I posted a question asking for suggestions on what equipment to use for a 5.8 Ghz link. I decided on the Ubiquiti M5 with the 30 db gain dish. I have 2 links in service, one is about 9 miles and the other one is about 22 miles. Both of these are working great and have signals in the -55dbm range. My question here is what effect is ice going to have on the links. Will just a little ice shut it down or will it take a good coating of ice to kill it. Just wondering what I have to look foward to this winter. I am in the South so we dont get a lot of ice.

Good Choice! And don't worry, it will work just fine. Just choose good and not busy channel.
I am using Bullet5 for 2 years now (maybe i'll relpace with M), 2 wav 48kHz/16bit/stereo streams (about 1,6Mbits per stream) and no single problem! There is also HD camera from other direction (about 1Mbit).

Also check bullet's grounding. Some antennas are with plastic feed holeder so no ground on bullet. You will need to make ground manually or to use shielded cable with metal RJ45. You can use L1 or even better L2 ubnt cable. ;)

Man! that is not what I was expecting to hear . Thanks for the good news. :D

I'm in agreeance here, while not using for STL, I operate a wireless ISP using ubnt gear, it works wonderfully. depending on which products you use, its nothing to do 50+mbps at 10 miles +

If you need any config assistance, post back here.

I have the same Ubiquiti stuff for our backup STL and our Internet connection. The hop is about 6 miles. It works great, although one direct hit by lightning did cause an outage. The good news is it was cheap to fix.

I agree on everyone. We are running multiple ubi links with uncompressed lineair audio and they work like a charm.
When non line of sight they might stutter once in a while. But the line of sight links work flawless.

I have not seen such stable equipment for wlan in years! No unit went down for a year already.

Ubi rocks!
