I Heart Media ( formally clear channel ) has flipped 100.7 WUSY HD 2, 96.1 The Beat to classic country Legend 96.1 http://www.us101country.com/us101TheLegend

I Don't think Chattanooga can support 5 country stations, Nashville can support 4 but they're country music city anyway here is the country station lineup

WPLZ 95.3 Cat Country

WUSY HD 2 96.1 The Legend

WUUQ Q 97.3

WUSY 100.7

WOGT Nash Icon 107.9

Nashville only has 4

WSM 650 AM

WSM-FM 95.5 Nash Icon

WSIX 97.9

WKDF 103.3 Nash FM

There are really three different country formats: Hot country, Icon (which is 90s country), and classic country, which is 80s country.

They vary their audiences based on the amount of old music they play.

Country is the hot format in radio today according to the trade journalists.

If any place might be able to support five country stations it could be Chattanooga. And that doesn't even factor in a station like, say, WEPG in South Pittsburg.

Still, even at the peak of its popularity, one wonders if five stations of one format are too many. You'd like to think programmers could be more imaginative.

Maybe it would help to look at it this way:

Q97.3 and Legend equals Hippie Radio 106.9
Nash Icon equals Sunny 92.3
US and Cat equals Hits and Kiss

It all breaks down to target audience. To say that combination of country means too many, then the combination Hippie, Sunny, Hits and Kiss would also mean too many pop music stations.

Interesting, But you're telling me looking at it this way 5 country stations = 4 pop stations. If you could think of 1 more pop station that can be picked up in Chattanooga I would see your point. However if you couldn't tell me 1 more pop station that could be picked up in Chattanooga then that just argues that 4 stations of one format in an area = the max limit that area can support and when a 5th station takes that format one station has to flip to something else.

Are you referring to Chattanooga? Classic country includes a lot of 80s but it has 70s and 60s too, at least on the stations I listen to. Even the occasional 50s or even 40s.
