530 KHz in Vera Beach, FL

So last weekend I scored myself a login on Global Tuners, and I have the Vero Beach, Fla. node set to 530 kHz. At the moment I'm hearing a drifty signal of easy listening music (currently a piano version of Sinatra's "I Did It My Way") preceded by some woman speaking Spanish.

Is this Cuba I'm hearing? I don't really know enough Español to make sense of what they're saying.

Edit add: that same Spanish-speaking woman's talking again, this time with a samba cut backing her.

Yup...this is Radio Enciclopedia from Cuba. Huge signal on a very clear channel; it's usually audible up here in western New York most nights.

I hear it day & night in Broward County FL, but those on FL's west coast (from Tampa south) get it even better.

I heard it in daytime from Cape San Blas (the cape south of Tallahassee).

Have heard them in the middle of the day here in NC. Cold winter days are best with car radio.

In VA, I can hear them almost every night without fail. During some serious auroral activity, I can hear them daytime too.

I have heard reports of people in Colorado getting them, I've heard it in Lubbock at night.

I've tried for it in Los Angeles, but there is a local airport station. I tried in San Francisco, but it wasn't completely dark. No luck - I had to drive to interference prone areas before complete darkness.

Radio Enciclopedia is a regular day and night in Tampa with a pretty good signal too.

Now, there's another station from Cuba on the same frequency.

They're fairly regular at night in the Chicago area...albeit rather weak.

Last week in Gulf Shores (Alabama) it was steady 24/7....as usual there. The music is a little more uptempo daytime than at night....especially in the morning.

Tonight they are clear as a bell, but with the other Cuban underneath them faintly. I was also getting Spanish at regular intervals about halfway up the dial too. 640, 780, 1090.

Friday morning at 2:40AM CDT, I was hearing classical music on my car radio (2005 Chrysler 300 stock radio) on 530KHZ. I was on my way to work. I listened for about 9 minutes. It was very clear. (I accidentally put this on the wrong post yesterday.)

If you are getting Spanish on 780 & 1090, IMO that's likely Venezuela.....Radio Coro in Falcon on 780 & possibly Union Radio in Caracas on 1090.

cd

Never have gotten Radio Enciclopedia here in WA. 530 is the "TIS channel" here-and it's all a weak mess of stations piled on top of each other. Most are from the Seattle area. 1610 is a better TIS DX channel, as the NOAA station in Pendleton, OR makes it in sometimes at around 150 miles.

How very interesting.

I will note that and see if I can get a positive ID next time. As it is now, its all gone. Given the large amount of Spanish stations on AM here in the States though, particularly in the mid-Atlantic, that may be a bit of a challenge!
