53rd Grammy Awards

Hi All.Tonight the Grammy's will be handed out.we will see who will take home the golden award on the 53rd annual event. Will Eminem clean house, will Justin Bieber get the new artist award. We will see.Enjoy the show.

With the current (blecch) state of music, I'm sure NARAS will hand out a Grammy
to Christina Aguilera for her oh-so-wonderful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner
at the Super Bowl. ::)

It's not music, it's swears over recycled beats! :D

I was hoping the Grammys would be live from coast to coast like the Golden Globes are, but that would be a waste of CBS' money.

And speaking of Christina Aguilera...you can bet there will be redemption from last week!

Ah, time for another "back in my day...(fill in the blank) was still good" thread. ;)

I never watched this fiasco of self-promotion when the music was worthwhile and the performers actually had talent. You can imagine what my response will be tonight. Here's a hint:

Local news just ran a network piece about this evening's Grammy Awards program.
It convinced me to watch anything but the Grammys tonight.
(I must be gettin' old...)

I'll be enjoying Big Love. Would rather have a root canal than watch/listen to today's music.

For me the fact that The Who, Led Zeppelin, Queen & The Doors never won one put the Grammy below the Golden Globe IMHO.

I think that's more a statement on those times. When those groups were having hits, rock was anti-establishment. Today, it IS the establishment.

There wasn't even a category for rock music until 1980. Until then, those rock bands would have to win in the pop category.

In 1980, The Police won the first of their 5 Grammy Awards.

The Grammy's have always had an "elitist" feel to them, as if mass pop consumers didn't really matter, or even worse, were to be despised. There may have been some change here in recent years, but not enought IMO. Yet, it remains the only real awards show dedicated to music. The performances can be of note, and tonight Lady Gaga should be interesting. Justin Bieber's influence or lack thereof, should also be noteworthy. It is easy to criticize the Grammy's, but I find myself drawn to it year after year. Not sure why.

I have to be honest: I have no idea who Janelle Monáe is, but her performance tonight with Bruno Mars on drums was the best thing I've seen on the Grammy Awards in a long time. An incredible tour de force performance that will define her career.

So far its been a...
a Lady Antebellum night,
a Arcade Fire night,
a Esperanza Spalding night,
a Eminem night,
a Cee-Lo Green night,
a Bruno Mars night,
a Lady Gaga night,
a Miranda Lambert night,
a Neil Young night,
a Jeff Beck night,
a Paul McCartney night,
a John Legend & the Roots night,
a Jay-Z night,
a Herbie Hancock night,
a LaRoux night,
a Black Keys night,
a Rihanna night,
a Usher night,
a Fantasia night,
a BeBe & CeCe Winans night,
a Keith Urban night,
a Train night,
a Sade night,
a Tia Carrere Night,
a Daily Show With Jon Stewart night,
and, of course, a Beatles night.

That tells you a lot about the upsets and surprises at this year's awards.
