54-2 Cool TV in Austin

That's what the TV display says, but right now it's an SD version of 54-1.
It must be getting crowed at KXAN/KNVA/KBVO/Cool TV.

I've been told that Cool TV is just a server in the building, and that unless something goes bump they won't have to fool with it on a daily basis. But you're certainly right, that IS a LOT of streams coming out of that building down on 19th St. ;D

The management team they have right now is certainly very aggressive in terms of expanding offerings. Wonder if they will go after a Spanish subchannel to help round things out, such as Mexicanal, Azteca or LATV? Retro and Antenna TV are available, too.

a single tv station can put on about 5 subchannels on thier digital channel. would that reduced thier bandwith. ( i not an expert on digital tv technology). i just wondering. thanks captex

kadf ch 20 a low power station in austin aready has azteca america. i don't see any austin full or low power station that has latv. rtv, antenna tv, mexicanal.

Will it be English? I'm wondering if it would be like KHCE-TV in San antonio 16.3, they play religious music videos.

Their web site is very vague ala Bob FM about what exactly they play. Their pages include pictures of Shakira, Sinatra and Willie Nelson, among others. But I'm not expecting Christian-style music videos.

We had "TheCoolTV" in Dallas for a while. It was English-language pop music video. A lot of current pop artists (Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Shakira, etc.), but a lot of good classic rock (Rolling Stones, Van Halen, etc.) too. The format was much like the original MTV. I keep hoping someone brings it back to Dallas soon.

The Canadian "Cool TV" was apparently something different, but it never aired here.

A digital TV station gets a fixed 19.2MBPS of bandwidth. They can split that bandwidth any way they want. Give it all to one HD signal (or for that matter, one SD), split it among a few subchannels, whatever. ISTR the only hard-and-fast limit is that you can only have 99 minor virtual channels. (5.1..5.99) (but the amount of video compression necessary to carry more than maybe 15 subchannels will probably make things unwatchable) (I know of a low-power station in California running twelve)

Cincinnati's WBQC - which goes by the on-air identity of "WKRP" (no foolin') - has four or five subchannels the others consisting of both This and RTV, a shopping channel, and Universal Sports. Not bad for a low-power station!

WBQC does not have This.

My bad... They have something else on 25.2 then... I recall going on the station's website and viewing the TV listings and the fact that there were two different channels with classic programming really stood out to me...
