540 AM, oldies again

540 AM, oldies again

For the last 4 weekends, 540 is now "Oldies" again. With Bill Alexander and Mike Johnson the main jocks in 2005, and with a 2.7 rating,
Mt Wilson broadcasting lamented "we can't sell airtime" . And dropped the oldies. With no concern for audio quality- it's BAD; a limited
signal, and constantly changing formats, one wonders why they bother being in this market.
As XETIN, when Mt Wilson took over, a Tribune story related about the quality Classical Format being brought to San Diego.
Levine gushed, "We're in the process of upgrading to STEREO..." continuing, the Tribune said it's (XETIN) 455 foot transmitter
was located in Mexico. Not sure how many readers have seen a transmitter rack/cabinet , but I assure you it will fit in a room.
(In an unrelated Tribune story, San Diego radio engineer Dick Warren was re-named Dick "Warner". ) So much for journalistic accuracy.
Anybody know if XESURF is PPM encoded?

From Fall of '04 through Winter of '06, no San Diego market station had a rating above a 0.7.

Do you mean "share" and not "rating" when you mention that 2.7 figuure?

I checked 540 for all four 2005 books, and it had a 1.0 in three of them and a 1.1 in a single book. In 25-54, it averaged about a 0.2 share and a 0.0 rating. The only place it had some kind of numbers was in 55+ and 65+, which is not salable.

Re: 540 AM, oldies again

Is it the same Bill Alexander From Power 106 back in the mid to late 80s to early 90s?

Re: 540 AM, oldies again

Would this be the same Nick Gerard that has entertained us on the Mt. Wilson stations over the years...?

Sure is - thanks for rememberin'! Had the pleasure of playing Sinatra, Ella, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole et al on 1260 & 540 not too long ago. It was a lotta fun...I loved every minute of it.
