540 CBT or CBK...I've just bagged one of them.

540 CBT or CBK...I've just bagged one of them.

OK, I'm not pulling out the cork just yet, but I can put 540 CBT Grand Falls NF and/or CBK Regina SK, on my 'probable' list. CBT and CBK are the only Canadian English language stations listed on 540. I did not manage to bag a positive ID, but a partial weather report, just before the top of the hour, provides much circumstantial evidence. The temperatures given are very close to Regina's local weather, however they could also have been given for other parts of southern Saskatchewan or areas of Labrador.

I'm continuing to monitor 540. And who knows...maybe the Hungarians will show up for another visit. :D

The weather report might not be enough to go on, but keep in mind----the top of the hour in Saskatchewan (not to mention the entire USA) is the BOTTOM of the hour in Newfoundland!

If you hear "Here is the CBC News" at :30 past, it's gotta be CBT. If you hear it at :00, gotta be CBK ! :)

I don't believe CBC does a separate network feed for Newfoundland. Last I knew, the NL stations get the same feed as the Atlantic Time Zone stations, so "The World at Six" comes on at 6:30 local time in Newfoundland.

CBT and CBK should be easy to distinguish by network programming; if the network programming matches the AT/NT schedule, it's CBT; if it's delayed by two hours from AT/NT, it's CBK. I think CBK is more likely.

Oh I think you're right. I was gonna say, have the www.cbc.ca page up and ready for a near-live feed, to check against it. I think CBC has all the feeds for the different regions.

Scott, you are indeed correct. NL carries the same 'national' feeds, as the other CBC stations in the Maritimes, so much of the programming on radio & TV begins on the half hour. Just another one of those quirky things which makes Newfoundland a special place (BTW, Labrador remains in the AST zone). ;D

I do have both feeds going (along with MR1 Hungary) to see what I can bag tonight.

While trying for Hungary the other night, I was able to ID the Spanish station I heard on 540. Turned out to be Mexico's XEWA. I haven't caught Hungary or CBT yet, but CBK is a regular every night here.

Nice. There must more than one Spanish station in the mix, as I've heard an "888" toll-free number given over one.

BTW, MR1 is up tonight. They had a Christmas service on the go, but are now playing Hungarian AC, making them fairly easy to pick out of the crowd.

Merry Christmas to those who happen to be popping by this evening!
