55 WKRC To Get 94.5 Translator

Probably looking for the younger demographics available on the FM band. I'm looking forward to seeing WTVN in Columbus getting it's news-talk programming on the FM band within the next year or two.

Fair price...especially for Cincinnati. Wish any AM station could apply to drop one of their own in.

Only the 60 DBU is reliable on these things.... That gives them about a 3 mile radius?

An engineer told me that you really do need to get about 250 watts at a decent tower height to have a meaningful signal.

94.5 WMXL Legington KY is a blowtorch in much of Northern KY so I doubt I will hear them much at all even after the move to the Ch 12 tower.

I'm kind of surprised they're putting WKRC on here; I'd have thought CC would try WLW or even WSAI on FM first. Of course, it may be that they're using this as a small-scale test to see how well an FM Talk simulcast will work in Cincy, and if it's well received, they may be thinking of bigger & better things (i.e., "102.7, the Big One").

Its a "needs" thing. LW doesn't need an FMT. Especially that one.

If it stayed in Port Union I could see WCKY finding a use for it, that area gets bad skywave/groundwave cancellation in the evenings and mornings.

To get this thread back to the point and away from stereo screaming ("clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am") I will be driving thru Cincinnati in a few weeks and will have an in car listening report. Looking at the map, this looks like a total waste of time.

Mark it's not on the air yet from the Channel 12 site. It's just an application at this point, so it could be months before it's ready.

Terrific! Now we'll be able to hear Brian Thomas coaching his "producer" in stereo. ::)

I wonder how all of the local "pay to play" hosts liked having Fox News net tones and prompts interrupting them for hours last Sunday? LOL

Regarding the night signal, I can hear it just fine. Not sure why they need a pea shooter translator. Unless you are standing still, translators completely suck.

Not sure what translators you're listening to, but I've been blown away by how good some of those signals are. Not just here but other markets. 106.3 and 100.7 are damn good signals. Considering the topography of this market, that's impressive. The Air1 translator at 96.9 is pretty good too.

Amazin' what 250 watts will do with the right height + placement.
