56 to be sold today

Dang. I would've thought Channel 62 would've been sold first.

BTW is Scripps trying to find one buy for the 5 Shop-At-Home affiliated stations (including 62) or are they gonna sell them seperately?

ch.62 is not a real station. no one really knows it exists.

as for 56, it had its purpose in the market. it's been sort of like necn for the last 20 some years. it extended careers of some over-the-hill oldtimers like jack hynes, bob gamere,
bill o'connell. helped to launch some careers - uma pemaraju, karen marinella, mike crispino, mike barkann. helped to maintain some careers - jeff barnd, frank mallicoat.
stumbled across a couple of hotties along the way - darlene mccarthy, lauren jiggetts. had its share of toughnose beat reporters - jim smith, terrel harris, krtisten caira.

people who like old-school newscasts will miss it. people who only watch 7 or 25, will now have another option.

Report about it on Ch 7 news said they will launch "Ch 7 10 pm news on CW56". Aiming for younger
audience. Ch 56 moving to 7 Bullfinch pl., so they're selling off the Morrissey Blvd studios (a vestige of
the days when they were WKBG-TV, as in "Kaiser-Boston Globe"). Should take a few months, pending
Sunbeam board and of course FCC approval.

56's news product and wb programming seemed like a mishmash for 12 years. at least with younger cw and 7's younged-up news product at 10pm, there will be a better sales plan. it just goes to show you what incompetency and neglect can do to a station. like gannett before it. tribune obviously ran the 10pm newscast on no budget for years. instead of gutting and overhauling the entire local news op when tribune took over and wb came into place in '94. they just rode along for as long as they could. that holds true for many of their stations around the country. that company will cease to exist within 12 months.

obviously cw is still unproven as a net. there's an expensive risk for ansin here but
considering that he turned around 7's in bos and mia in relatively short period of time, he has a proven track record and those are pretty goods odds to go by. despite what monica collins, dan kennedy had lead you to believe over the years, ansin is actually good for local tv news. he puts fire under people behinds at the competing outlets. 5 has gotten better since 7's remergence. 4 has tried and tired, but the problem there is that its sales-driven from the top to middle management. plus, 4 continues to hire badly and doesn't have the vision to be a successful news op like 7, 25 and 5.

TABLOID 7 WANTS TO APPEAL TO YOUNGER AUDIENCE

Ansin is at it again. He wants to go after a younger less educated audience again. More sensational tabloid crap on the way from this group. Well, maybe Ansin will provide coloring books to go along with the news. ;)
