570 KLAC mid-days vs 710 ESPN

Anyone know how KLAC is doing since going to the "Fox Sports" format? Especially mid-days. I'm finding Chris Meyers to be impossible to tolerate.

If less Vic The Brick means more Chris Meyers then I accept change. You are right though, Meyers seems to be the dominate talker which must be odd for Hartman since he was the dominate voice when coupled with those clowns VTB and Thompson.

The format also put an end to the constant Lakers Lakers Lakers, Man-Ram, Dodgers Dodgers Dodgers topics. I don't care about Nascar either but anything is better than listening to VTB massage Kobe and the rest of the Lakers' thighs for 3 hours.

In the latest PPM numbers KLAC is still way up on KSPN. 710 has never cracked a 1 share. KLAC won't stay on top for long because their merging with Fox Sports Radio has been a disaster! The Lakers are joining KSPN in the fall, so that should turn around the numbers for them in the future.

Fred Roggin had video of the new KSPN studios in Downtown Los Angeles that they moved into on Monday (3/2) on the 11 PM Channel 4 News on Monday night. I was hoping they'd post it to the www.nbclosangeles.com site but no. They are beautiful studios with a ground level studio for those going to LA Live or the Staples Center where you will be able to see their live radio broadcasts. Much better exposure than looking in at the corner of Ventura & Sepulveda for Fox Sports Radio.

They put the KLAC studios in the pinnacle building on Olive to shame! KSPN is on the rise. I applaud P.D. Larry Gifford for keeping the programming live and local for 8 hours with the new-lineup!

I understand the Vic criticism, but I thought the "loose cannons" show was a good 'slice of L.A.' kind of show. Meyers & his whole bumbling "radio sports guy 101" is simply soulless. I've found myself flipping to 710 more & more these days. Which is why I wonder what the next book is gonna look like. I wonder what happens if KLAC gets smoked by 710 in the next book??? Strange days indeed...

The loose cannons as they previously existed was unlistenable. Everyone talked over each other, mostly with raised voices if not outright yelling and screaming and then add VTB on top and it was all too much.

I like Chris with Steve. Chris seems to keep Hartman in-line, and for once I can hear what everyone has to say. And a reduced role for VTB to boot, and as noted above, not all LAKERS LAKERS LAKERS (VTB - KOBE, KOBE, KOBE!!).

Overall, an improvement all they way around. Since I am usually in the minority opinion on these things, I agree that KSPN will probably see a ratings boost going forward. Too bad.

Am I the only one that has been switching back and forth to 710 during the Jim Rome show. It seems like one long rerun on many of his shows, Jim getting stuck like a broken needle on an old routine that was funny maybe 5 years ago. I guess I'm just getting burned out and need a change once in a while. I would be nice if they mixed in some better guests than they have been getting lately.

Just like Tom Leykis shtick eventually burned out the same thing is happening with Rome. Is he going to keep doing his surfer dude voice forever? The difference between Tom & Rome is that Jim makes way more $$$$ for his shtick!

Rome is indeed laughing all the way to the bank these days. I was a big fan going back to his early years in San Diego, but his show now is pretty awful - he's resorted to playing sound clips ad nauseam and it's a very unfunny experience (Jim Healy he is NOT!) He still has some decent interviews, but otherwise the show is largely unlistenable.

I'm finding myself switch to 710 more than ever since the "fox sports" switch. Rome is fine in short bursts. I've noticed he takes a lot less "clone" phone calls these days. The fewer clones, the better.

I used to listen the loose cannons show daily, but I'm starting to dig Mason & Ireland a lot(a show I never heard once before the 'switch')...

Mason and Ireland are the only listenable combo on LA sports radio.

570 online stream is streaming some 80's rap music today. I assume they're still on the air, just the stream is down??? You never know these days...

EDIT: the stream appears to be working now....
