580 WDBO Heard on HD-2 Channel (WHTQ 96.5-2)

While scanning my HD receiver last night, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the Magic game on WHTQ's HD-2 channel. First time I had noticed 'DBO's programming on this channel, with crystal-clear audio here on the coast, free from the lightning crashes and the other interference on AM at night (although WDBO's AM signal generally works pretty good at night in East Central FL). Seems like a great idea to augment WDBO's signal and to hear it in digital quality.

I've been wanting something like this to happen. I can't get DBO as clean as I'd like up here in Seminole County at night and this helps a lot. Good to see Cox starting to make use of HD-2 in the market as well. I notice it has quite a delay in comparison to the AM signal.

Are WUCF, WMFE and WPRK using HD?

Never mind. The link answered my question. Thanks.

No, but the link is apparently wrong in some respects....Last time I was up there, for example, Mix was not in HD even though it lists it as such. Ditto for RUM, JRR and TKS, which it lists as having an HD-2 on, but last time I was up there (about a month or so ago), were only on with HD-1.

I've heard from a user on other threads in the past that the stations are still working on transmitter adjustments. However, this was a few months ago and aside from budget crunches or other associated problems, I can't imagine it would take that long to purchase, install and test equipment necessary to transmit the programming for the subchannel on converted transmitters. Considering many of the HD2 formats in use require hardly any local programming efforts once on the air, you'd think the stations touted as "coming soon" for as many months would be active by now.

Mix 105.1 is on but with only as HD-1

100.3 and 101.1 have the HD-2 in but has not bothered to turn on the HD-2

104.1 has the HD equipment installed but has not bothered to turn on the equipment for HD

540 and 740 were supposed to go HD a long time ago, once their new transmitter building was finished, I don't even think that is completed and that was supposed to be last year.

94.5 should be back up in HD in a few months once their transmitter building is rebuilt, note, the replacement tower near Paisley was finished in mid-November, with antenna and transmission line to the end of the ice bridge installed.

I've been doubting CC would apply HD in full scale on either of the two AMs. I'm satisfied with the amount of primary HD signals, but for all the advertising they aired from the national HD Radio: Discover It campaigns, it would be nice to actually have the stations between the stations. :) 89.9 HD-2 and 96.5 HD-2 are very good to have, if nothing else for now. For those that enjoy the music being played on them, 101.9 HD-2 106.7 HD-2 and 107.7 HD-2 are okay. They leave more to be desired.

Even though the Magic lost tonight, it was nice hearing the game in FM quality.
