580 WDBO On/Off

While doing a long run on Sunday morning, was listening to 580 which was carrying the ESPN feed. It seemed like at every commercial break, you'd here the national commercial then dead air for 5-6 minutes until the next break, that would pick up with a local ESPN promo or PSA. I've got to assume DBO is running automated at 6:00am on a Sunday ... but who/what went wrong for the triggers not to synch up. Could ESPN not be sending the cue to run local ... or was it more likely DBO's error. Around 7am I tried switching to 740 ... got the Florida Roundtable (Political Talk) - which you'd think would run on CC's news/talk ...but they were carrying religious programs. Tried 1080 WHOO as well... the had FL roundtable too. And all I wanted was some babble on College & Pro football to take my mind off the pain of running... nowhere to be found.

Heard the same thing on my way to play golf. Lots of dead air - after the second incident I flipped it. Nobody home early Sunday.

I guess computers sometimes hiccup. Show me an automated station that has never had a computer issue. I thought ESPN covered the local breaks with PSAs. So even if it didn't turn the network off, there should still be audio. Florida Roundtable is a convenient way to fulfill the public service program requirement of the FCC.

These Radio Clusters would be well served to have 1 Operator on duty 24/7 when you have 5,6 or 7 Radio Stations in a Cluster to serve as a FAIL-SAFE in events like these,Oh Wait...They'd have to PAY SOMEONE,My Bad!
