580?

If this is true, make way for the state's best signal...

Point of order: how is the Giant 580's daytime signal any better than 55/FYI
or KT'R? And the 390-watt DA-N? I have it on good account that nights are
real spotty in the far SE side Tucson metro, and if Radio Locator is even in
the ballpark, they miss a ready-made audience in Green Valley too.

...to bring you such exciting programming as...the Austro-Hungarian Music Hour.

They already do--Saturday mornings at 11. But a sale likely means curtains
for Dancin' Danny Babich and his 75+ European ethnic demo.

From a very reliable source TODAY I heard the new owners are going to do one of the three....

1. Keep the same format and ad personalities to certain dayparts.

2. Go News/Talk with all local all live talk.

3. Go Spanish Talk

I was told ads are going out for production, office manager, traffic manager, sales and promotions people this weekend.

Something else is planned as well but I can't get make it out of the phone conversations I hear. From what I have heard this will all happen by next week.

Plus while driving in Phoenix I heard 580 very clear.

580 has always had a much stronger daytime signal in Phoenix than 550, 620 or any other Phoenix AM to the south.

Growing up in Scottsdale, a bunch of us used to listen to The Crazy Man on KIKX in the '70s. He was outrageous up until he caused the FCC to put the station off the air.

While I can't speak on how the the KIKX 580 signal was in metro Phoenix then,
I could normally get a reasonable daytime signal from KOY 550 and KT'R 620
in Tucson. A lot less man-made interference then too.

I will grant you that now--everything else being equal--the Giant 580 is about
30 miles closer to Phoenix than 550/620 are to Tucson so it (KSAZ) may be a
tad stronger in the opposing metro. I know I listen every Saturday morning
at 11.;D

Good point, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I roamed Scottsdale looking for lost ASU coeds, KIKX was screaming out of the Swan Road towers.

KTAR and KOY's signal into the Naked Pueblo, back then, was OK, but not as good as KIKX's to the nw.

KSAZ is unlistenable at night in Green Valley. Having that stick way up in Marana really hurts them at night on the south and east sides of Tucson.
