590 WARM is Silent Again

No, for several reasons.

First, the WARM license still exists. Just because it's silent under an STA doesn't mean it's gone, and in fact there's every reason to expect it will return.

Second, WHP protects more than just WARM. It had to protect WTAG 580 in New England, WMCA 570 in NYC, and so on. Even if WARM did go away, it wouldn't open up much room for anything.
One of the best AM day time signals in Pennsylvania.

Maybe they could adjust their pattern some but they have an FM translator on 103.7 that covers most of the market so any funds spent for upgrading the AMs signal would have a minimal return on investment if any.

If something major fails on the AM plant. I wouldn't be surprised if they downgrade to a class D and sell some land.
What’s interesting is WHP barely, if at all, promotes that FM translator. Is the 580 brand that strong in the area? Or is WHP just holding until iHeart does something else with 103.7?

They have a great daytime signal. North to Hazleton ,west to Johnstown , east to Philly, I would also pick them up in Baltimore. Their directional nighttime south signal is also quite good.

They are now simulcasting Gem 99 and 100 since two weeks ago

This is odd because there is already a translator in the Scranton area. Why there can be two translators simulcasting the same station in the same given area???

Unless this is temporarily until a new format signs on that frequency, perhaps a 50's/60's oldies as opposed to Gem which is mostly 70's-90's material....
