6/1 tropo log from NJ

nd2023

Banned
Strongest tropo opening of the year so far. Got stations from Boston to North Carolina (and everywhere in between) overnight. Many of the stations were very strong, sometimes wiping out the local stations on the same frequencies. Even got a few DX stations in HD on my HD radio. I also got that infamous pirate station in Boston Hot 97/87.7.

There was tropo every night for the past week, but today was the strongest tropo opening. The length of the duct was at least 700 miles, since I got Boston and North Carolina stations at the same time. Last time I heard a long duct, strong tropo opening was before Hurricane Earl last year.

I have an outdoor antenna hooked up to a Sony XDRF1HD. And I stayed up all night for this. My past strong tropo openings have usually only been in one direction at a time (such as to Boston with no Virginia stations) but this opening had stations from all directions.

Darn, I knew there was some sort of opening, but couldn't play with the dial. Was driving in Ocean County, NJ, and B 98.5 was incredibly staticy. But I had my boss in the car and couldn't be a true "geek".
