6-17 and 6-18 E skip event

First E skip event hit Escanaba Michigan here in the Upper peninsula of Michigan, 2 hours north of Green Bay Wisconsin for those that don't know where I am located. I had the day off of work and at 2 P.M. I am just leaving the gym when I noticed there was a station booming in on 96.9. Our local station is Magic 97.1 WGLQ so I suspected something was going on when 96.9 is in listenable due to 97.1 bleeding into the station. I scanned the dial and sure enough we were getting skip from Texas! Here is my list from Wednesday June 17th.

96.1 KORQ Abilene TX
95.3 Magic 95 Lawton OK
94.5 WFMX Lubbock TX
98.1 KOOL Lubbock TX
96.9 KISS FM Amarillo TX, advertising for a Gin Blossoms concert.
93.7 KXTQ Lubbock TX

Then this morning I was checking for meteor scatter on 94.7 which is one of the only open frequencies on the dial. I noticed a station started bleeding into 94.7. I thought Marquette's 94.9 the Bay was bleeding into it but it was on 94.5. I was like on we're getting some tropo from 94.5 the lake in Milwaukee. They were playing Daughtry-No surprise. The song got over and it wasn't the lake, it was Tide 94.5 from Myrtle Beach SC! I noticed skip again all over the dial this morning. Here is the list this morning.
94.5 Tide 94.5 Myrtle Beach SC
97.5 WCOS Columbia SC
96.1 Channel 96.1 WHQC Shelby NC
97.3 WAEV KISS FM Savannah GA
94.1 the beat Savannah GA
93.7- The All new I 93.7 WALI Walterboro SC
93.5 WARQ- Playing Ellie Goulding- Love me like you do.
93.3- Playing some hip hop. I didn't identify.

Congrats on the skip! MUF on 6/17 in some parts of the US was well over the 2-meter (144 mhz) band, and a DXer in St. Louis logged a couple of NOAA Weather stations from TX via e-skip on 162 mhz.

98.1 is KKCL Lubbock, not KOOL (which is 94.5 in Phoenix). Savannah's 94.1 is WQBT.

No skip here since logging the Wichita stations + KVOB on 6/16.

Great catches, Michigan DXer! June 17 was a fine e-skip day in San Antonio, Texas, as well. It was the best one of the season so far for me, with nine new stations, one of them from your state. It was also a day of records with some new states, first loggings on 87.75 and 107.9, and some low power records. In order of reception, here are the positive IDs:

90.5 WERG “Best Rock on the Radio” Erie, PA - 1,346 miles (new state & new distance & low power records - 2.75 kW)
91.1 WOLW “The Promise” Cadillac, MI - 1,239 miles
89.5 WNIJ (NPR, local weather) Dekalb, IL - 1,014 (new state)
87.75 WRME-LP “MeTV FM” Chicago, IL - 1,051 miles (3 kW)
88.5 WPVM (WRVM translator) Sturgeon Bay, WI - 1,225 miles
88.5 KALA (June 21 River Music Experience concert promo) Davenport, IA - 943 miles (new state)
93.9 WDOR (weather, WI Dairy Council interview) Sturgeon Bay, WI - 1,225 miles
88.1 WJTY “Family Life Radio” Lancaster, WI - 1,031 miles
107.9 WBCV “Big Cheese” Wausau, WI - 1,182 miles

I was fortunate to be working from home that day, and during the opening I saw some of those posts about 2-meter e-skip, so I checked out the Weather band. Unfortunately nothing was making it here on those frequencies.
