How is everyone liking Project 9-6-1?
There is no morning show yet, but it doesn't seem like that should be too much longer.
How do you like their version of the active rock format, the jocks, the imaging, ect...
Do you still miss 96rock and/or The Buzz?
Most importantly, was this a good choice on CC's part?
Point by point:
-- I've listened more since the change than I had in at least the past 5 years combined.
-- Unfortunately I agree that the mornings are going to change, which will almost certainly result in cutting my listening dramatically.
-- The morning & even well into the midday I like their version of active rock pretty well. They've done a much better than I expected job of making the mornings attractive by emphasizing the "rock" part of the format. As it gets later in the day however I perceive a steady drift toward lighter and/or more alternative sounding artists/songs. For me that's a dead turnoff, by nights I find them virtually unlistenable both jock & music (the local act bit they do at night is definitely some of the worst crap I've heard in years), but I'm actually pretty forgiving about that however since, at age 40, they're neither expecting me to be listening after dark nor are they trying to get me to listen.
-- There was really nothing good enough left about 96Rock for me to miss. It was beyond tired & putting it out of its misery was the kindest thing they could have done.
-- Good choice? I'd say the jury is still out on making that call.
One observation, totally anecdotal, aside from the specific points/question you raised that I'd like to add.
There was, I don't know, probably 45 minutes or so back in April that I really think was the best radio I've heard in Atlanta in a very long time. Or at least it was without a doubt the most I've enjoyed listening to the radio in years. It was the Saturday afternoon that the Thrashers hosted the Rangers & they went into a pre-game warmup segment with calls, requests, and music all geared toward people headed to the game or getting ready to watch the game, etc. Absolutely spot on in terms of connecting with the people they were aiming at and nearly flawless in its execution. It was real and it was a delight to hear.
