I used to like the short lived legal ID on WKSE that said "Serving one of North America's two greatest cities from a dumpy little building on Grand Island." Even though it was certainly true back then given old the facilities on Staley Rd (I can personally attest to the conditions there, especially in later years after the studios were moved out), I was told that people from Grand Island complained about the words Grand Island and 'dumpy' being associated closely in the ID so it was changed.

I always wondered why Jack FM 92-9 said that about beautiful Buffalo NY in a dumpy little studio....

The property is still used for the transmitter site but the old building and towers were demolished a few years ago. There's a new tower and pre-fab shelter but I've personally never seen inside the new site. My time living and working in Buffalo ended over 20 years ago.

"60 in a row" has been used on WYCD in Detroit for years. It's not meant to be sarcastic, but it *is* perhaps misleading.

The phrase in their case refers to 60 minutes of commercial free programming, not 60 songs in a row.

Tim Roberts might very well be the reason 107.7 / 104.7 is using it.

(Edit: to be clear, in WYCD's case, they do not mention "every hour". A typical stager might say: "Here comes 60 in a row!")

What is even more deceiving
when the hour start time is 2:37 pm

So, going back to 2:24 pm they make the statement - 60 in a row, and third song in
they are taking a commercial break.

It's part of the Jack "branding", I think. Even the UK Jack used to go on about its "dumpy building".

The "dumpy little studio" meme was amusing ... for a while. 97 Rock countered with a liner about "broadcasting from an industrial park." Sounded like a contest to see who was broadcasting from an crumbier joint, even though both stations had decent digs. [There are actual radio stations whose studios are poorly equipped and offices look and smell like a toxic landfill.] But then, the stations began selling studio sponsorships ... anything to enhance revenue ... and the "dumpy," "industrial park" memes were tossed in favor of "from the →insert client's name here← studios."
