60 Minutes on CNBC

Why is a very popular CBS News show airing on CNBC a NBC Network? I just noticed this in the tv listings on the guide saying "60 Minutes on CNBC".

It's simply a way for CBS to make money. CBS produces the program, CNBC pays for the rights to air it. Not atypical for topical programming that CBS probably will never use again.

Ah, but does CBS have a a say in when it can air?
What if CNBC takes too much attention away from a specific CBS program?

In that case, how soon until we see "20/20 on CNBC"?

I just thought it was interesting. I know CNBC also uses Biography from that sister A&E Network. Also Discovery ID shows Dateline NBC along with CBS's 48 Hours. And of course during news stories for example you might see the story on NBC News but show something from CBS News and say "Courtesy CBS News - Face The Nation".

That's a very valid question, but having seen CNBC's ratings (or lack thereof) over the years, I don't think CBS has anything to worry about.

CBS can have whatever terms they put into the contract.

The philosophy is 'synergy' and the boundaries between networks have broken down. I guess they figure that it's best to maximize revenue by making their programs available in however many media they can - online streaming, simulcast on radio, repeats on other networks - it's all good.

In this new world, Fox produced programs run on other networks (example - Two and a Half Men), and the same is true for the other corporations,

If you think of it, 60 Minutes wouldn't really fit in on any of the CBS or Viacom networks - Comedy Central? MTV? Spike? I don't think so. So if CBS makes more revenue from the show on another platform, and NBC makes more money from running it - everybody wins.

How about 60 Minutes on MTV, with Morley Safer and Snooki?

I like it. It's all about the synergy between CBS properties. And open up 60 Minutes to a whole new demographic.

</sarcasm>

Sarcasm noted, but not sure what the proper icon is for that. I don't like it. In fact, the mention of Morley Safer and Snooki in the same sentence makes me kind of throw up a little in my mouth.
