60's on 6 about to be blown up?

I enjoy the 60's on 6 and have been an xm subscriber since they were launched. The jingles are nice but I do find most of the dj's on the 60's channel very annoying. I hate the fast talking crap and the over loud reverb on the mikes. I grew up listening to this music and that type of delivery was great when I was a teenager. But we are adults now and I prefer an adult delivery.

Any word on what will happen to the xm standards channel 73 and xm ch. 4 the 40's music channel. I agree also that I will cancel also if they screw xm badly. It just dosn't look pretty.

There has been a lot of grumbling here and on xmfan.com about suspected channel changes. Wouldn't it be in the best interests of Sirius XM to make some kind of announcement and stop keeping us in the dark about all this?

I like 60's on 6 and the way the jocks recreate the fun of the era. I also enjoy the "Strawberry Love Pump" and the bit about XM using alien technology....fun stuff! Radio used to have a sense of humor like this! That was the icing on the cake for me!

I agree completely. Love the programming, jingles etc on XM's channel 6.

Also agree that it would be nice if XM weren't being so secretive about all the upcoming changes; it's not like they have a competing satellite corporation to keep this top secret info from.

I emailed XM about the proposed channel line-up last week and remarked that it was sad, that I had to rely on rumors and speculation from other websites about the upcoming changes.

I did get a reply, which thanked me for my concern, then put in a plug about purchasing the "Best (sic) of Sirius package"; and then concluded by giving me the link on the XMradio website to get the latest news on programming. The link I was referred to was last updated on the 29th of July (two months ago) and was the announcement that the merger had been approved and that the new company would be SiriusXM! I rechecked that link today and still no further news. I guess their webmaster is an extended vacation or was laid off shortly after 29 July.

Management undoubtedly knows that there'll be a loud and passionate reaction once the changes are made and is prepared for that. What it doesn't want, IMO, is a lot of whining/threatening/outraged/pleading e-mails and phone calls before the plug is pulled on XM as we know it. And you know that would happen if the changes were announced far in advance; ardent fans of the old XM would convince themselves that their complaints could change, or even cancel, the inevitable. If the changes are made with as little advance notice as possible, a certain percentage of those subscribers wouldn't even bother to complain, realizing that it's futile to try to change something that everyone in management is 100 percent behind.

SiriXM screwed up with its handling of the layoffs; the employees never should have been able to find out until their bosses wanted them to. I have a feeling it's trying to make up for that by following the cold, bloodless American Corporate Management Handbook to the letter with the programming changes.

Heard an on air announcement on XM 80's earlier today just after ten AM central. The DJ said that they'd be merging with SIRIUS big 80's and becoming SIRIUS/XM big 80's On November 12th. I believe he said the switch would take place at noon eastern. He said he'd be on until noon on November 12 and then hand it over to the MTV VJ's amd then named a couple of them. I've read reports of other XM channles making similar announcements today but have not been able to catch the others. The only one I heard myself was the one on the XM 80's channel.

Per Phlash Phelps today on XM 6...Cousin Brucie joins 60's on 6 in 1 week!

I like that, I never lived in NYC but used to DX WABC all the time. I remember the party sounds Brucie used to run in the background...

Same here...I grew up in Cincinnati & hardly ever listened to my local stations at night...It was always 77 WABC Chime Time...remember the party sounds as well. That was good radio & I look forward to it's re-creation on 60's on 6.

Now it seems that Brucie will be moving to 50s on 5 tomorrow. Phlash announced this morning that he's staying, and there was a promo played for an upcoming "Sonic Sound Salute" to WCFL Chicago. That's Terry Young's baby, and it airs on Friday afternoon, so Motormouth is staying, too. No idea who'll be handling the other airshifts, but it seems that Sirius liked the way XM handled its 60s channel better than the way its own people handled Sirius' counterpart.

Phlash also threw in a couple of promos for the Elvis channel that's coming to XM18 tomorrow, and reassured listeners that XM60 would still be "soul." He didn't say "Soul Street," though.

Well, it seems as if all the fretting and gut-wrenching and predictions of the end of the world as we know it were all for naught. Sure, there have been some (minor) programming changes on 60's on 6, and Pat Clark is gone, but we can all still wake up with Phlash and drive home with Motormouth. I guess instead of everyone canceling their XM subscription, we'll see a plethora of Sirius subscription cancellations, because, as we all know, Sirius had the superior decades channels. Or nothing will change. You decide.

Well, no. We don't all know that. As a matter of fact, I will say that all of the music channels on XM were far superior to Sirius. I should know because I have Sirius music channels available to me on Dish Network, and I chose to subscribe to XM.

gawd, give me the gaspipe. I canceled my XM subscription this morning. I'd cancel Sirius but I got one those lifetime subscriptions so I may as well keep it.

I wasn't a big fan of Wolfman Jack when he was alive and hearing him again on the 60's channel when he's dead isn't any better. I really preferred the 60's Vibrations jukebox approach compared to Wolfman's frog croak babble that I'm hearing now.

Time to boot up the PC with Raduga and the ACC-100S FM xmitter.

It's 60s on 6 that made me choose XM over Sirius' drab and lifeless Good Vibrations channel. Happy to see Phlash and Terry survived the cut, but come on - WOLFMAN JACK in MIDDAYS? What they Hell do they smoke over at Sirius?

As they said in American Graffitti - the man is on tape. I don't like the idea of listening to a dead guy during the day at work. Wolfman is great in small doses but that's about IT.

On the other hand, I'm enjoying 70s on 7 - I guess this is how I'll be dividing my day up from now on.

IIRC, i think Brucie's Wednesday show (and Sunday repeats) are gonna be on 5 - his Saturday show will STILL be on 6... 8)
